The concept set is what the JB/Jazz wants to be. I have it in a guitar and it's amazing. The JB/Jazz flavor is there, but without all of its sharp edges, without the nastiness in the upper mids, the honkiness in the lows, the shrillness in the highs. The basis is there, yes, but so different that I struggle calling them a JB/Jazz set. if that makes sense. it's like...
A ribeye and a brisket both taste like beef, but they're quite different after all.
I've never found the JB to be nasal. It's mid-focused. It's cutting. But the mids are voiced in a way that never come off to me like those vocal/nasal DiMarzio mids ala Dominion/Tone Zone.
I don't remember whose it was, but I remember reading a blog where they measured a few different JB's from different eras, and the old ones seemed to have less inductance.
I have a new inductance meter arriving shortly. I've got at least 3 early "The JB Model" pickups and 3 '80s "JBJ" versions I can take readings on. Might be fun info to nerd out on.
