Re: 51' Nocaster project

And more. Refer to previous page for first set of photos. This was the 21st post so it went to the 2nd page.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

As soon as i have enough money to purchase the rest of the crap i need. So far this project has cost me around 500$. It's alot of fun but at the same time you just want it over with.

Estimated time would probably be...2-3 weeks?

Re: 51' Nocaster project

All that the pickguard requires is a little rounding out where of the corners of the neck heel sit.

Use a rounded needle file or scrape with a blade.

Take plenty of time. (You can always remove more material. You cannot put it back on.) If the pickguard is lacquered bakelite, be extra careful not to crack the lacquer.

Re: 51' Nocaster project

I'm not sure it's worth it to be honest. I'm just wondering whether i should go ahead and drill the neck hole...

Re: 51' Nocaster project

I'm using noiseless pups.

Gotcha, but why GFSes if you've went to all the expense for everything else? Why not spring for Kinman's Broadcaster pups, Duncans Noiseless for tele, or Dimarzio Area Ts? I mean it just seems like you'd be shortchanging a great guitar. Sorry I'm not making the connection with GFS on a guitar that you're obviously trying to make a KILLER player.

Luke

*edit*I forgot Bardens, they don't LOOK like vintage tele pups, but they have the sound!

I might spring for something more expensive. Those are some good suggestions. I'll check them out. Thanks!

Ain't no thang man! :friday:

I just think it's going to be a KILLER guitar and GFS, though decent upgrades for budget axes, aren't worthy of such an instrument.

The real trick is deciding if you want the look AND tone, or just the tone. Christian and Lew both have Bardens and although they don't LOOK the part, they both say there's real tele tone there. Bill Kirchen used em for a good bit in his old 59 too IIRC.

The SDs, Kinmans, and Dmzs I have not had the pleasure of trying. The Dmzs use the same method utilized in the strat pups, so they probably are getting rave reviews too. Lots of guys on TGP like and have used Kinmans, I've never even seen a set! lol With SD I've only heard the old style strat pups and they were decent.
