Hi. I wander what pickup EVH uses on "Good Enough" from the 5150 album. To me sounds like the 59b. Is there anyone who knows? Thanks.

YUHUUU!!!! FINALLY A New Van Halen Pickup thread. :arms:

With a bit of luck you´ll get a wonderful thread with tons of info in the next few days, I´ve been hoping we´d see another of these. There was a great one on the old board that unfortunately died during the move to the new one ;)

I thought for 5150 he used EMGs and Steinberger guitars...

Of course, he's known for not being very forthcoming on his gear that he used. I could definitely be wrong here though...I'm not an EVH expert. :burnout:

The Steinberger was only on a couple of tracks. The 5150 Franky had a 59b in it according to the info Eddie gave in interviews. Thats plausable based on what I hear but I doubt even Eddie knows for sure. Until he lets us dismantle and confirm we'll just have to wing it.

59B? That's interesting! I've been saying for a long time that the 59B is my favorite bridge pickup in a non-standard Strat. Strong bass and treble and plenty of mids. I don't hear it as being scooped in the least, tho some others do. I have got to get some time and get that EVH/78 installed...I've had it a couple of weeks now. Lew

Re: 5150 album pickup

It sounds scooped in this album but if you see his settings on the 5150 amp in the site of my previous post he sets the middle at 2. So it is possible that he had similar settings with his older gear. So I think the scooped sound comes from his settings and not the pickup itself. The sound is very open though, that makes me think of the 59b.
Just a thought.

I think the guy probably has so much gear, he doesn't even remember what he has, pickup wise, in his guitars... :)

The amp is the most important factor in his tone IMHO. I used to play a 5150 head thru a Marshall cab because the cab gave my tone more 'darkness'. When I plugged my amp into a 5150 cab...well, with my Dano Cool Cat and Boss delay on, I was easily nailing 'Knowledge' tones with my Strat. Even more so with my Wolfgang (and that makes sense, doesn't it :duh: ). So for those that like new EVH tones, get a 5150 I head and you're at least halfway there in my opinion.
