I prefer to point the mic perpendicular to the grillcloth... it always sounds better that way to me. I do, however, want to try out some multiple micing combos; the Fredman technique, micing different speakers at the same time, adding a condensor in the back, using a D112... If only I had more money.
I know what you mean about it being loose; it also has some low mid rumble that I'm going to tighten up. I wasn't as generous as usual with my low-mid comression on this clip, but now I realize I need to do that, turn down the gain a bit, and turn down the resonance.
