5150 combo

Hi. I just purchased a 5150 combo and it is my first tube amp. I just replaced the output tubes and have been playing for around two hours at a time. My question is just how hot is normal for a tube amp? I can feel a lot of heat on the top of the amp, moreso on the output tube side. It isnt so hot that I cant touch the amp but coming from solid state amps I am curious. Thanks again.

Re: 5150 combo

Tubes use heat to make the sound, unless it catches on fire its probably fine, last week my guitar teacher was troubleshooting a marshall that was running so hot the pain melted off the tube, now thats too damn hot!

P.S don't touch the tubes, you will burn yourself.

if you dont smell melting or burning youre fine. You may on occasion smell dust burning from sitting there, but so long as it goes away...
