Re: 5150 II settings
Hi,
I have a block EVH 5150 version with the 5150 cab
Firstly, email Bob at
www.eurotubes.com and grab some jj tubes. Pay the extra for the balanced phase inverter and matched power & preamp tubes.
I orginally had sovtek LPS preamp tubes and the 5150 had a buzzy, fizzy quality that I grew to dispise. The JJ's from Bob really make a huge difference, to the point where i'm not bothered about this 'rebiasing' mod that you will hear about. My amp does everything from death metal to Eric Johnson really, really well!
I also use the normal gain input, try it out and see what u think! It makes this amp less of a beast, but in a good way.
The eq on the amp really depends what pups your using.
For example, IMHO, something like the duncan Distortion sounds great with the pregain at 5 on the lead channel, while a HS-3, sounds better on 6. Of course, more gain is ALWAYS there when you need it.
The bass on 6, mids 3, highs 4, res 6, presence 4/5 with a high output humberbucker whilst bass on 6.5/7, mids 4, highs 3, res 6, presence 4/5 with lower output or single coil pup.
For the rhythm channel, I like the bright switch in, crunch off, the post at 9/10 and the pre set to taste for that nice and tasty clean/blues sound.
