My local GC had one for demo and I got a chance to play through it. That was back right before Christmas. The 50 watt 2x12 combo is the one that adjusts down to 1 watt.

I have yet to see one in a guitar center, but I have seen them in a local shop. Its a cool amp.

I have NEVER seen one in any of the GC's I've been to. I wish that would change.

My local GC rarely every carries anything decent or much variety. HOWEVER.. last trip there, they did have a few mesas. I did try a fiddy out in a small music store cross town.. Def on my want, but dont need list. Esp cuz of the headphone jack

The 5150 III 50 watt head doesn't have power scaling, but supposedly sounds great at bedroom volumes.

The GC I go to had the 100 watt version sitting on the floor. The jack*** working there made me demo it on a POS cab though so I couldn't really tell how it actually sounded.

They seem like great amps. The fact that the combo has power scaling makes it even more appealing. I'd probably want a 50W head though. Like YT, I hear they sound great at low volumes and the resonance knob in back helps put some thump back in when playing really low.

Strange ... GC is no longer a Mesa dealer.

I'm guessing left over stock. The GC close to me had a large Mesa display before they no longer were a Mesa dealer. They still have a pretty big chunk of those Mesa's there.

My question is where do try out a Randall?!?! They had a pretty big showing at NAMM last year and this year, and with bring Mike Fortin on board, I hardly find any Randall dealers let alone any with amps on hand.

Sorry wasn't trying to hijack the thread.

I saw the 100 watt at Guitar Center once, I demoed it, and that's why I wanted the 50 watt when it came out- since it was half the price and all the tone. I haven't seen any more EVH amps in Guitar Center since

The combo has the power scaling. I own the 50 watt, and IMO it really doesn't need power scaling, it's all pre amp overdrive, and the resonance control on the back gives you low end thump.

The head/ cabinet is more portable too. The combo is huge and 87 lbs. The small head with cabinets is more manageable- whether you go for a 1x12, 2x12 or 4x12. I chose the EVH 50 watt over the Peavey 6505+ combo initially due to the smaller profile of the EVH.

The amp is really sensitive to different guitars. On my PRS I need to turn the presence down to 10:00, on my basswood body EVH Striped the Presence needs to be boosted to 2:00.

Regarding the difference in volume between channels1 and 2, what I usually do it turn the 1 and 2 gain to 1:00, and use the guitar's volume to clean up on Channel 2. Channel 1 on its own can get too squeaky clean for my tastes
