soo i recently got an early 90's peavey 5150 head. and the ground prong was missing on the power cable so i bought a new plug and cut off the old one. only because this was before they started making the universal power supplies. and i got thinking...

is there any way i could mod it to accept those now universal power cables? i know it could get messy..but im the mess it up-fix it kind of guy.

Re: 5150 power cable

You could cut out a new hole for the IEC connector, drilling the corners first, then cutting between them and hand-filing to fit. A nibbling tool works well, too - that's what I use.

There are wrench-driven chassis punches that will cut that hole, but they are really expensive. Not worth it for a one-off.

Once the connector is mounted, just solder pigtail left from the existing power cord onto the back of connector. Heat shrink tubing is not a bad idea, either.
