57 Classics in a 335 style?

No love for Seth Lovers in a 335?

I recently got a Heritage 535 with a SL set.

Incredible. I used it this weekend for the first time playing CCM and five different people came to me saying that it sounded great, which never happens.

IMHO it’s the best set for a semi. The three positions are very usable.

They are awesome in any semi hollow. But I didn't realize you had a set. If you do, they absolutely win over 57 Classics.

Might have a bit of spare cash, keep the 57s in case I want to put them back in my SG, and they come with braided single core wires, whereas my 57s have 4-wire.

They do sound great in my Dot. Clean, Jazz-y type stuff, Blues, Crunch, and even Rock. They have an open, airy tone. They also respond well to the volume and tone controls.

I would think that in an all mahogany 335 they would help balance it out, so it is not too dark or too bright.

I know it is painful to swap on a 335, so you want to get it right the first time. If you have a set of Seths, I think you will not be dissapointed.

If you are able to get Seths, it will be a worthwhile investment. Seths and Antiquities are the best sounding pickups in a semi hollow.

If you're buying, +1 on a set of Seths. I recommended the 57 Classics as something you've got already. But Seths would be even better IMO.

Seths ordered. Nickel covers 1-core braided cables. Should be here next week.:headbang:

Good call. While I like the 57s in the neck position of semi hollows, they sound overly twangy in the bridge in my experience. It could work in some situations, but isn't ideal.

Seths are fantastic pickups. They have their own thing going on compared to other PAF-types, and I really like that thing.

They're just different. IME Seths carry a mid honk in any guitar whereas the 57 Classic has full but neutral mids and a full high end. 57 Classics sound to me more like the amplified sound of the strings at that position, less "character" imparted into the sound but very responsive to technique especially if you can work your guitar volume knob to get different levels of sensitivity from them. Your guitar may appreciate the Seth's mid honk to give it character, or it may have character already and the Seths won't sound as pleasing as something more neutral like the 57 Classic. No way to know without trying either pickup. Either way, definitely play with pickup height. I rather enjoyed the Seth Lovers lowered below where I typically set humbuckers, seemed to balance it out somewhat. I've had these pickups in a couple of set neck mahogany axes as well as a superstrat, pretty similar all around.

Hope so.

Anyway.

I have another question.

The basic wiring diagram is below. Pretty straightforward, no push pull coil splits or anything this time around.

I am, however, going to move the pickup hot and output wires around for the independent volumes thing. I like it, I use it, so there it is. I expect to fit treble bleeds as well, as the mod has the reputation, at least, of making the pickups "muddy" at low volumes otherwise.

The question is, which lugs should the volume pot end of the tone cap wires go to?

I've only had 57s in an SG, and I did not like them. I have Antiquities in a 335, and it's hard to imagine a set of pickups that would be better. I would think Seths would be pretty close though. I also got pretty good results with some 59s in an Epi Dot, but swapping A2 or A4 magnets was a lot better than the stock A5.

Antiquities are a little more 'open' than Seths, so if anyone is considering either, it would be personal preference. Both are equally touch-sensitive, though.

FWIW I think the treble bleeds may compromise the independent volumes, because then you are always leaking some signal to the outside lug.
