5751 Preamp Replacement

I currently have 6 Groove Tube ECC83 preamp tubes in my peavey 5150. I'm going to be swapping a JJ 5751 in the V1 position. Are there any precautions that I should be taking before I swap it? Is it an issue if there's different brands together? Thanks!

nope. swap it and if you like the way it sounds you are fine

Re: 5751 Preamp Replacement

I have never been a fan of a 5751 in the v1 slot. It alters the tone too much for my taste.
My v1 valve of choice is the ECC832, you should definitely try it.
As the first half is the same as an ECC83, the voicing stays the same, and the low second half cranks the gain down.

I have also had success keeping the ECC83 in place and using a Heavy Electronics Descend pedal in front of the amp.

Should caveat this with "depending on the amp" Not all amps use both sides of V1 as gain stages. Some V1B is the tone network. Others like my NMV Marshall V1B is only used for channel B so unless you are in B or jumping channels it would have no effect.

In a DSL V1b is actually the first gain stage and V1a is only used then in "ultra" mode.
