Ok guitar centrer opened & I played a 59 reiss. bassman & i loved it!!! Should i det it or should i get the smaller blues junior so i can keep it cranked? What should i do?

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

Fenders RI amps are quite awesome I must say. I like the blues Junior to but they seem like two different amps to me.

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

i own both and they can both be great amps.

the stock blues jr is a good amp. a new speaker, set of tubes and a rebias will make it a great amp. with the bias lowered it puts out a little less than 15w. good amp to crank up at a small (50-100 seats) club

the '59 bassman ltd is a great amp. alnico 10", tube rectofier, gt6l6ge tubes its a great amp. its also LOUD. great for outdoors or larger clubs if you want to crank it up. if you want it to stay clean, you wont even miss the reverb and the volume is much more managable

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

If you get the blues Jr get the Tweed one with the Jensen!

I like the Bassman LTD, verrrry nice!

I would say do the Bassman as you can use it with a pedal for lower volumes.

I had a relic Blues model and it was great for small clubs and quick moves around town, but it wasn't good for bigger gigs. It's all a matter of the gigs you play, both amps are good.

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

One of my first amps, years ago, was one of the first '59 Bassman Reissues. I really liked it. Financial problems forced it's sale (along w/ a couple of really great guitars). I have a Blues DeVille 2x12 now, that I like a LOT better, though.

I also have a Blues Juior (tolex version) that I use for practice and occasionally a rehearsal, but not for gigging (no headroom).

But the Bassman is an awesome amplifier. A bit of a "one trick pony", but still a great amp. You can pedal in any effect that you want. Keep that in mind.

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

i played a few gigs with my bassman where the other guitar player used a blues deville.
we both played nice strats with one overdrive pedal and the tone of the bassman was much nicer. more focused with a sweeter top end and punchier mids

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

The Bassman does have a more reasonable tone to my ears, better resale value, and you could always drop a PTP 5F6A clone chassis in it if you really want to do the tweed thing. Maybe it's a 'one trick pony', but it's a good trick---way better than no trick at all.

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

i gotta disagree about the one trick

it's cleans are great

for light OD it's really good

and if you crank it to 7-10 & use a mid-to-high output pickup, it's got one of the nastiest meanest distortions i've ever heard

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

I've had a Bassman LTD, and it's a very well built, great sounding amp.
Another one to consider is the Fender Bassbreaker, which is the same as a 90's Reissue Bassman, only it's shorter and has 2 12" Celestion Vin 30's. If I had to choose, I'd personally take the Bassbreaker, only because the low end is bigger and tighter, especially with humbuckers. It'll also make single coils a little beefier sounding.

Just responding to an earlier comment about 'one trick'---you can get great jazz cleans (Chuck Wayne used one), gnarly West Side Chicago blues (early Buddy Guy), or twangly (Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran), as well as lots of steel players and harp guys...even some bass players (Larry Taylor uses one with 4 JBL's). Hardly a one sound kinda amp.

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

Well the thing is that im gonna begin playing with a band & yeah @ shows the bassman would kill but the thing is that i also play in the chior @ my church & i currently play a 12 watt kustom, don't get me wrong it sounds killer cuz the speaker @ my tone works proccessor. It can get close to the whole ac 30 thing or the ac15. The blues junior i think may be a bit more sensibe as they are already telling me to to turn it down. The whole speaker change thing would be a good idea. I can just buy two use one for church & practice & get two for gigs.Thanks. Would the whole stereo blues junior thing be an over kill. & for the mid out put pik up thing I have An aes 500 yamaha with a jazz & a pearly gates plus. Should i get the two after all?

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

use the Kustom at church, get the other amp for yourself.........one cannot rock the house at church........especially if you and most of the congregation are caucasian :laugh2:

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

Unless, of course your name happens to be J.S Bach or G. F. Handel, and then they will cut you slack

Re: 59 bassman reiss.

I think if you dont get the bassman look into the pro junior. More of a bassman tone to me and NMV
