'59 Bridge in Neck Slot

After reading Jolly's post about throwing a Jazz bridge in the neck position, I thought I'd ask about doing the same with a '59 bridge. I have the '59 neck in an Ibanez RG 421, which I know is not the warmest guitar, but the '59 is just not warm enough for me. The lows are boomy, they highs are too glassy and the mids are...missing. I remember back when I started messing around with after market pickups I bought a '59 bridge and used it in the appropriate bridge slot. I liked it a lot for its warmth, fullness, and clarity but at the timed wanted more cut and crunch for metal/heavy rock tones. I'm wondering if my ears were different then and if the '59 bridge is boomy/glassy like the neck model?

Thanks

Re: '59 Bridge in Neck Slot

Try a Seth Lover neck or APH neck model in your RG's neck slot. The boominess/glassiness you're talking about in the 59 is due to the Alnico V construction. An alnico II humbucker will take care of that and add big, thick mids.

Re: '59 Bridge in Neck Slot

Aren't the bridge pickup version bigger on the bottom end than their neck counterparts?? If that's the case then the '59b would be even bassier in the neck than actual neck pickup....which is too boomy already IMO.

This is a very valid point.

Good point. I was thinking that the bridge model would have more mids, but I definitely don't want more bass.

I think that's why people like the JB in the neck....other than it being kinda hot....it doesn't have alot of bass...but it's good on the mids.
