59 bridge or JB in a strat....

Hey folks,
stupid question. I'm assuming the answer is going to be the JB....

But which pickup will give the better 'position #4' in a strat....assuming the humbucker is split?

Thanks,
Frank

I've had both in a Strat & I prefer the '59. The JB didn't have enough bottom and didn't do clean tones as well.

Split or in parallel the JB has the best single coil tones I've ever heard from a humbucker...but I prefer the 59 Trembucker in a Strat. The JB is to loud. Lew

Guys,

How's the bridge(split)/middle position #4 with the 59 in the bridge?

It don't sound bad, still quacks pretty good.....Joe

I agree with you that, if do the 4 position with the HB split,
then the JB will give you more balanced volume and more vintage
quack than the 59. It also has a pretty good SC sound if you want
an optional SC bridge sound.

If you went with the 59, then splitting it in the 4 position you may
get more air and quack without much volume loss if you play around
with the other pickup heights. Unsplit, you'll sacrifice quack but should
have good volume balance.

Not that you asked, I think the decision depends on whether you
want the bridge humbucker to just be bridge pickup with HB
smoothness compared to SC, or whether you want it to sock the
pre-amp for instant distortion solos.
