59 Bridge, Pearly neck for Les Paul

I've decided on the '59 Bridge and Pearly Gates neck for my Les Paul Standard. I have tried the PG bridge and I think the '59 is a better fit for me. I think the A5 will be a nice change for me in the bridge.

A5 bridge and a2 neck is a great and proven combo... And PGn in particular would be quite a good fit with a 59b. In the right guitar, this set would be killer.

Hard to go wrong either way, I love both in any combo, specially my PGb with a UOA5 mag instead of an A2 it really brings that pup to life.

I think that set will be great :) I want that set in a guitar, too, by the way. but which one? Don't know :D I have the pearly in the bridge and the 59B in the neck. thats also very, very good.

Thanks, I chose the 59 bridge over the PG bridge because the "sizzle" seems just a little too much.

I made that exact pickup choice a while back, for the same reason, except they are in a solid korina guitar that I built. Excellent, well balanced setup. Enjoy.

i would imagine the PG UOA5 is like a smoother PGplus. yea?

Haven`t really dealt with a PG+, but its about the same except the UOA5 has a little more output than a A2 and I think it allows you to hear the beauty of the winds a little better and just a hair more punch. Plus the bass isn`t as spongy and the highs are still rounded but a bit more present in the mix.

The PG plus is wound hotter than a regular PG. It 8.75 or something like that. It would be interesting to try a PG UOA5 though, especially since the original PG pickups were a5

BTW, I'd bet that the PG/59 combo would be a great combo. I've been meaning to try it myself.

The PGn is one of my favs, except for mayby the antiquities neck. A2 in the neck has a sweet spot that cant be denied.

Partial to the C5 in the bridge but a 59 can be nice. I dont do the bright thing in the bridge so the extra thickness of the C5 suites me well. For vintage bright bridge tones the 59 is hard to beat.

These will replace the Gibson 57 Classic + bridge and 57 classic neck. Love these Gibson pickups too, but I think the new Duncans will be more dynamic.

But then, an A4 or A5 mag in that '57 Classic may change your mind about how dynamic it is.

good point doc,.. I definately think a move to A5 is in order in the bridge. We'll see how it goes,...The '59 is here, just waiting for the PG neck to arrive.

A buddy of mine has had that combo in one of his Les Pauls for about 5 years. It's really nice.

Re: 59 Bridge, Pearly neck for Les Paul

My #2 Les Paul (R8) came with the stock BB. My first swap was a set of PG, which made the neck clearer (still rounded highs) and the bridge was nearly identical. Still the balance between both were not good, maybe because the PGb is a bit low wound with 7.96k (go figure).
My next step was a A4 in the neck and a RCA5 in the bridge. The neck is terrific with a thight bass and a lot more articulation - a keeper. The PGB with the A5 was clearer and tighter in the bass, but too much treble and still to low in volume.
Then i changed to an A8 in the bridge: Beef, grind and drive is here, but rounder highs like a A2. I think i keep this combo. Since my other experiences with Ants i think this A4 neck and A8 bridge thing does something to me.

One thing: I still think of going back to the original BBs and change out the magnet. You guess right: A4 in the neck, A8 for the bridge.

Any tried this with BBs?
