59/CC hybrid in the neck?

Anyone here try a hybrid in the neck position? I was thinking perhaps an A2 59/Custom hybrid might be pretty sweet in that position. I can't think it would be an issue of being too hot for the neck. Look at the Distortion neck and some people put a JB in the neck. Both of those are hotter. Anyone try it?

Not me... I prefer a cleaner pickup for the neck...

The Distortion NECK coil which is wound with a thinner wire might work well with a 59 neck coil.

This is exactly what I've been messing with the last couple days. Something like this:

Use a 59 bridge, Distortion neck, and a Custom 5, assembled as above. Then use a special 4-way and a toggle switch. You have 4 distinct humbuckers and 4 distinct singles. Thats a lot of tone-age from what appears to be a dual-humbucker guitar.

Construction is under way as we speak . . . uh, type.

Edit: And with the left over parts, you'ld have a hybrid with a 7.2k stud coil, a 6.35 screw coil, for a total of 13.55k with a ceramic magnet.

Me too. I had a Duncan Custom as the neck pickup in my Hamer Monoco and switched it for a Seth Lover. The Custom got muddy when I played loud...although it was nice at low volumes. Lew

One of my favs in the neck is the 59N/Jazz Hybrid with the A4 magnet...I need cleaner, brighter, and articulate in the neck spot..Brighter but warm also..

I've been playing my PGn and Custom guitar almost non-stop since putting it together a few days ago and I really like the split/single coil tones from these pickups. I find that I tend to play rythym on the neck PG with it split more often than not. But when both pickups are split and combined that's a great cleanish tone for rythym also. I also like combining the bridge Custom in full humbucking mode with the split PG...that's another excellant tone for playing rythym. So far I haven't found any real use for the parallel settings on this guitar...I'll leave that option off the next time I wire up a two humbucker guitar for myself. Lew

Hmm, I have 3 59's and a CC to work with. Is there a way to "unwind" the neck hybrid so as to have a lower output pickup? Or do you think due to the wire it wouldn't sound quite so good?

Re: 59/CC hybrid in the neck?

I'd certainly try it...then again my LP has a 12k A5 humbucker in the neck spot (14.something A5 in the bridge) :D

Re: 59/CC hybrid in the neck?

If anyone has one, I'd like to trade a cream Distortion neck screw coil for a Custom screw coil. Black would be nice, but I'd take any color.
