59/Cust hybrid vs Perpetual Burn live.

Ok guys after listening to these clips have a firm conclusion see if you agree with mine.
Services 2 weeks apart at my Church same amp ( 1/10 Mesa Subway Rocket combo WGS ET10) same mic, same settings and effects ( only a Polara Reverb run in the loop) but with different guitars with different bridge pickups. Both pickup tone curves and outputs on paper are verry similar but to my ear there s a LOT of difference in tonal character. Much more in fact than I ever expected ever in the different guitars.
First off my 2017 Keisel DC 135 with the Perpetual Burn.

Now my Modern Player Tele with the 59/Custom Hybrid.
What you guys think on how they are sitting in the mix. What about compression articulation and clarity?
I was really surprised how about you?

The PB seems to be the brighter of the two to my ear. The 59/Custom has more body to it, but I don't think that it cuts through as well.

Yeah, if you're looking for cut throw an A2 in the 59/C. But otherwise, it sounds nice and great playing. Your church has a much better setup than mine. I play into a PA with a crappy speaker simulator and they won't let me bring in my Marshalls. And when they record our playing, all the bass on my guitar vanishes.

Interesting as my ear is telling me something different. On the bright side can see it but in cut and clarity thought the Hybrid was the real winner.

Re: 59/Cust hybrid vs Perpetual Burn live.

That once again confirms that different ears hear things differently.
Which makes it a good thing that we have so many different pickups to choose from.

Was why I posted this bro. I hear more clarity and definition + a really rich harmonic content from the Hybrid. I hear more raw power punch and compression from the PB with a little more of a high mid peak but less sparkle on the top. Love um both though! Just got both set ups really dialed in over the last 2 weeks so played them out back to back Sunday to Sunday.

Re: 59/Cust hybrid vs Perpetual Burn live.

The lack of crowd noise and higher overall music volume are the biggest things i hear. I hear a lot less keyboards in the second track as well. Comparing apples and pears in my opinion.

Re: 59/Cust hybrid vs Perpetual Burn live.

Hey honest question though OT: do you get paid for church gigs or is it voluntary? I see a lot of people on forums say they play at churches and it had me wonder.

Don't want to go down this road far because any discussion on playing in a Church will many times turn into a war on a board like this and that s unfortunate. Wish it didn't because those of us who do play in these environments face some challenges that most other players don't.
On your particular question had it both ways. Here I don't get paid to play but have in he past at other places, here I use all my gear some churches will provide everything ( these guys have a Mex Strat and a Fender Mustang programmable combo if I chose to use them), here I run a small miced tube amp on stage some others will demand silent stages and ether run something like a POD or one of the Kemper rigs and some will let you run your cab or amp some on stage some off stage in an iso room. Lots of unique challenges for the guitar player who plays in Churches I really wish we could discuss here in a dedicated forum.

On the crowd we have a LOT of folk out with this Flu right now so---. House levels are on the sound man as all of the stage levels were the same including the keyboard guitar mix we were hearing( welcome to playing in church LOL:dunno:).

I'm just saying that there a lot of other factors that are in play with those recordings. If you heard the difference live, then go with youf ear. If you're basing it off the recordings, then you need to consider the other factors.

Could you say run a head on stage then a speaker cable to a closet or some room off stage and mic a cab? Done that several times and it can work very well. On recording if you are pulling a board mix it's always going to sound bad, in a church in particular those feeds they normally use and mix to record the sermons to post on line or live feed out so the mix for the music is always bad. I always use some type recorder with a mic to get the real sound out front. Here I used a Zoom Q3HD set up in the sound booth.

I record in particular with new gear to see how it's sitting in the full mix many times. Yes heard substantial differences in the set up's standing directly in front of my amp though. The PB was more aggressive, very modern sounding smooth singing and a little more compressed more along the tonal line of the better stuff from Dimarzio than a Duncan and VERY nice. To me the 59 Custom/Hybrid was downright mean but still had clarity and sweetness it sounded very open and rich less compressed more of a very very good hot PAF tone with some serious attitude. Wondered if you guys were hearing the same things.

I for one think its great that you play for your Church. Maybe it was the playing, but I really enjoyed the 1st clip better myself. So I vote PB

The bass player uses his own amp, but there's no where on the stage or hidden away that any of my amps will fit in. I just put up with it, no one notices my tone anyway, the singer and piano are set way to loud anyway.
