59/Custom Custom Hybrid anyone

Thinking about ordering some A2 magnets and put one in my 59/Custom Hybrid .
Anyone run this setup , if so what bare your thoughts ?

Would like more mids , closer to the JB but with the same output it already has .
It could be that this chambered LP just doesn't work well with it , but I like how it's not over compressed but yet has nice drive to it .

The regular Custom Custom isn't very close to a JB, so I doubt half of it will be. I would like to try this, though, as I love the CC and the Hybrid.

I had the 59/custom hybrid in a really bright strat so I put an a2 in it. It took the edge off the highs but didnt change it much otherwise. Overall it was the wrong pickup for that guitar.

You get the characteristics of a vintage wind to show through. True highs, touch sensitivity etc, with the higher output of the hot coil. It's a good recipe.

You have to hybrid the JB with something.

Have you tried the Holdsworth?

I made myself a ghetto-Holdsworth that was much nicer than a stock JB and different enough to the JB2 to be worth the effort. The mids got a bit more complex and the highs smoothed out quite a bit.

When I tried the JB2 I was like holy smokes, that's coming from a bridge pickup?! It warms it up like a mofo. How some people don't understand the idea that the stock JB is muddy, well the JB2 is actually like that lol.

JB2 is definitely a lead only pickup.

I have, but it sounded way too hot for Holdsworth tones to me. He might have used one in the 80s, but he was using a neck 59 in the bridge for many years since then.
I've made a JB2 before, trying to change what I didn't like about the JB. But I think it is just the wind- no matter what magnet, it doesn't work for me.

It would appear that everyone here has forgotten about the UOA5. Same character, more mids. If you want to tame the highs a bit, get a rough cast. You want to tighten it up, go regular ceramic.

UA5 is magic. Never tried one in a JB, but they've been downright marvelous in the 59B, Custom, and PG Plus.
Might try one in the Perpetual Burn next.

Just a regular roughcast A5? I'm not surprised then. The 59b is a bright wind. The roughcasting will make the top more complex maybe, but it won't tame them.
The UOA5 will soften the top and bottom a bit, while adding more mids.

Yeah, it's a regular RC A5. I like the WLH, but the high end is a little bright. It's a good bridge pickup nevertheless. It's very much an A5 high-end
