59/Custom Hybrid?

Re: 59/Custom Hybrid?

The 59/Custom Hybrid works really wel in an HSS Strat too- that is how I use mine. I think it sounds equally good in an SG or an LP as well.

That's quite the pretty girl right there, man!

I love the way you matched the tuners with the pickguard.

For my own guitars, I've beem known to be a sucker for the contrast between black hardware and natural wood finishes...

Told ya! Sucker! ;)

I like contrast but I can also be matchy matchy sometimes. LOL

Where's your guit-box with a '59/C?

Re: 59/Custom Hybrid?

To my shame, my '59/Custom is still in its box and with the tape seal unbroken. :(

I shall have to "create" a vacancy for it to fill. :naughty:

Re: 59/Custom Hybrid?

They are certainly worth it- I think it is really a good pickup that covers the gap between vintage and modern. There weren't a whole lot of choices around that area. I'm sold.

Re: 59/Custom Hybrid?

I wonder how one sounds when run in parallel with itself?

They sound great, a very useful sound, esp. for clean rhythm work. There is a volume drop, but that works in my favour because I mostly use the parallel setting for cleaner chord stuff. Plus the 59/Custom in parallel combined with the neck pickup provides another great rhythm sound, too.

I guess it may not be particularly useful for high-gain players, but for general-purpose guitar work on a dual-humbucker instrument, it can provide two extra, different, sounds that are somewhat more subtle than the humbuckers in full series-coil mode. There is still some degree of noise cancelling, too, unlike cancelling one coil.

Re: 59/Custom Hybrid?

Haven't tried it in parallel, but use it as a single coil a lot, i.e. half the time.

Agree that combined with neck it sounds great.

Slap it in that white RG410 :).

Re: 59/Custom Hybrid?

Would either the 59/Custom or the Custom have any problems in the sandbox with a Lace sensor Hot Gold? That is the pup i would like for the neck position, but I want to make sure Duncans get along well with other manufacurer's pups?

Re: 59/Custom Hybrid?

They should work well with any passive pickups. I am not sure of the polarity of Lace's, so you might have to check that or reverse some wires when installed.

Re: 59/Custom Hybrid?

Trust me, you don't want the slug coil to be the 59. Imagine hornets with razor blade wings in your ears...
