'59/Custom with Custom Custom

I have been tossing around the idea of putting this combo of pickups in one of my guitars. The question is, which pickup in which position? I think could be great either way.

Anyone here tried a '59/C in the neck position? What about a CC in the neck position?

The guitar is a G&L Ascari...or possibly a dual humbucker Les Paul Special.

FWIW, S.D. claims the mids, highs, and output level are about the same on the two pickups, with the low end being significantly lower on the CC.

59/C sounds great in the neck, Custom Custom sounds great in the bridge. They would probably match well in terms of EQ and output as well.

I say go for it.

My MIM Strat has a ‘59/C in the bridge, sounds great. I’m a big fan of the ‘59 and had to give it a try. Glad I did. I have a PGb in the neck.

These are my 2 favorite bridge humbuckers. I don't think they would work for me at all in the neck. If I had to choose, it would be a CC far away from the strings. But that still wouldn't sound good to me.

Come to think of it, I had an A3 Custom neck / UOA5 Custom bridge in a Wolfgang copy for a while. It was alright, but didn't last long.

Re: '59/Custom with Custom Custom

Would not use ether in the neck myself. I have a Hybrid in the bridge with a Sentient in the neck on my 93 Carvin DC 127 and think that set up works very well. Solid output and tonal balance and very versatile tones. Out of the 2 the Hybrid would make the better neck pickup as the Custom Custom would be really muddy and loose IMO. Still a hybrid would be really hot and muddy in the neck IMO some thing like a Sentient is hot enough to get some really good high gain and solo tones but is still tame enough to be clear and clean when needed.

Yes, dont want to copy what the previous posters said but yea, the CC would be mud city in the neck of pretty much any guitar. Its awesome in the bridge of super bright guitars. 59/Custom Hybrid is probably the most versatile bridge humbucker out there. It can do basically anything! metal, Split clean tones, you name it! I would do that in the bridge and an Alnico II pro in the neck. That would make an awesome combo.
