59 neck....what in the bridge?

Re: 59 neck....what in the bridge?

But infact what i want is a hot paf...
take a A5 paf, wind it until 9.5k with 42 gauge wire...i'm looking for that sound.

Have you looked at a DMz Fred? Medium output A5. I use it with two 250K's and it's nice; has ample mids and enough treble to cut thru.

Re: 59 neck....what in the bridge?

well..i don't like so much di marzio..i find them to be a little "dead" in comparison with duncan...i think i'll go with a 498...seems to be a good compromise between vintage and something more modern or lead oriented...plus it has a good amount of bass...
zebra 59 and zebra 498...split on tone pot et voilà!

Re: 59 neck....what in the bridge?

I can also add my +1000 to the Custom 8 recommendation...not too compressed (read: more "open" sounding than the JB), good full spectrum, it growls instead of stings...good solid driving PAF-on-steroids tone with no icepick. The A8 helps round out the highs a little bit, give the mids some more presence, and keep the low end tight yet chunky without becoming overbearing. I used one in the bridge position of a neck-through Schecter C-1 Classic with great results (I also had a '59N in the neck, and they are a *great* match IMHO).

Check out these clips by forum bro Ascension. These were all made using similar bolt-on Washburn superstrat-type guitars. Same clip, three different bridge pickups:

HTH... :)

i'm pretty sure that i would like a custom 8, but here in italy is not easy to find magnet...and i don't know how difficult is a magnet swap...

Wymore Guitars.com sells both C8 PU's and A8 magnets, and ships internationally. He's a forum member and a nice guy too. Email him.

Wow...thanks for that post. I'm looking at changing magnets on my JB. I want more mids for better punch when playing power chords. I was trying to decided on the A8 or A2. That A8 sounds much better in the mids than the stock JB. Now i just need to hear a demo of the A2 in the JB.

The JB2 is warmer than a JB8. Less highs, more mids. I like it a lot. Depends how much treble you want.

Re: 59 neck....what in the bridge?

Well...i want to change the pick ups of my PRS Santana SE II.
the prs santana pick ups are 7k for the neck and 10k for the bridge...but they're almost double the price of duncan...

So are you thinking of replacing the existing pickups in your PRS Santana SE II? What is it about the sound that you don't like?

Re: 59 neck....what in the bridge?

You cannot draw conclusions based on that you like the '59 in a SG. A SG is entirely different from - well, everything else.

Does the target PRS have a tremolo?
