i really can t decide between these 2 pickups.i have a basswood ibanez rg 1570, maple neck and rosewood fretboard.
i put a DD in the bridge and i have an ibanez single coil in the middle.i m looking for a good clean sound (not harsh).i play metal and i really love the 'tallica neck sound.i asked the tone wisard and it told me to put a '59n but i had a lot of advices for the jazzn. So which one is best between these two pickup to have such a sound?:?:

I've been there with my LP and found for me as the gain goes up the 59 was a little muddy I've changed it for a jazz and it seems to keep things under control but still has the sustain that I was looking for:butkick:

If you're happy with most neck humbuckers you'll probably like the 59N just fine. If you've longed for a little clearer tone from the neck humbucker the Jazz might be the ticket. The Jazz can do what the 59N does and vice versa, but the Jazz has a little less bass and more upper harmonics way, way up on top. The Jazz can produce fat overdriven blues and rock tones with the best of them but if you're after a tone that's maybe 5% clearer with maybe 5% less bass and 5% more upper harmonics that's the Jazz N. For even less bass and a clearer tone that's a little warmer than either the Jazz or 59N the Seth Lover would be another good choice. Lew

the 59 is really meant for the paf tone, hence the 59 name
i love my 59, but i wouldnt say it does metallica tones....

try the jazz, and if it isnt doing it for you, you could easily trade it here, or 30 day it.

i don't have a 59 so i don't have anything to compare to but i just put a jazz in my rg 550 and i love the extreme clarity and tone i get from it.

lol but i m not fixed...i going to buy it soon and i live in belgium....(so it means that i wont be allowed to change it if i don t like it).i want the good one immediatly.which one is the best for heavy metal neck sound??(like metallica)

Probably the 59N. That's the one Dimebag tends to use, as well as ALOT of other guys. Lew

'59n. The amount of bass this pickup has will equal the DD thus having great balance and will make eq'ing much easier. '59n cleans are great! Performs well under high gain too.

yea, the cleans on the '59 are amazing, i really love them. great for bluesy licks and very nice full sound

Getting my Les Paul with the Burstbucker Pros was a real eye opener as the BB Pro neck is way more articulate than the 59 in my opinion. I find the 59 a little muddy under high gain for solos......the BB pro stays very clear and controlled.

I bet the Jazz and PGn would be sweet though.

Having tried both, I'm going to say '59. The Jazz neck seemed too mellow (and I know Jolly has clips that say otherwise, but I call em like I see em ;) )

I've got a Schecter with a Jazz in the neck and I couldn't be happier but I don't play metal - I can only tell you that the pickup sings to me.
