59 or PG for my washburn set neck guitar for that EVH sound?

Hi folks.. I've currrently got an EMG 85 in the bridge and neck of my Washburn as I wanted to try them since the guitar seemed a little dark.. Well, it originally came with a Custom Custom which is a nice pup, but lacked something that I want.. and it had a 59 in the neck which was great.. but I typically rarely use the neck pup.. and only want to replace the bridge and I'm not even going to wire the tone control or the neck pup.. So, I'm caught between a couple choices and wanted some of you older more experienced guys opinions.. This guitar is built somewhat like a Wolfgang with a set neck and is all mahogany with a roswood board.. Gibson scale, etc.. Grover hardware, TOM bridge, etc, but I want the picup to be a lowered output model, but with that killer tone to die for. I'm a huge fan of several bands such as Thin Lizzy / John Sykes tone, Angus, Ted Nugent, etc, etc.. and I want the amp to do the work and I'm in the process of buying a new amp as I'm using a modeler now which has more than enough gain, but I just have to have a real tube amp.. I want a plexi sound and I wnat to change pups before I try the amps. I'm thinking of a Peavey 5150 combo or XXX, etc.. or Classic 50 with a couple pedals.. Which pickup though! That's the killer question.. I'm leaning toward a PG's if I can get it in F Spaced as my guitar demands it.. and again my guitar is a tad dark.. and the PG has that killer tone I love under heavy distortion when I played it in a Gibson all mohgany Flying V, etc.. I haven't played the 59 enough, but have played it in some Kramer bolt on's and it sounded great.. Any suggestions?

The PG is my favorite pickup (neck or bridge) for LP style guitars. It should match up well with your mahogany axe. Personally, I would wire the tone pot in as well, as some find the PG to be a bit bright. THat way, you can have a bit more control over this aspect of the pickup.

I have an emg 81 if you are interested, It will be brighter than the 85. I also have a PGB standard spaced. Are you looking to get rid of the Custom Custom?

The PGb would probably do really good in an all mahogany guitar because I have one in my LP classic and its too bright for me because of the maple cap.

I'm thinking the PG would be great too, because this guitar is a tad dark because it's all mahogany, but for some reason Washburn thought the Custom Custom was the way to go with the bridge pup.. It's also F Spaced even though it doesn't have a trem which I found odd.. Anyway, I think I might just go with a PG.. Which has more output though? The PG or the 59? Just cuirous..

Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm trying to get that old EVH tone from his first Albums, or at least something similiar.. since his tone was so damn big.. I'll have to of coruse find a hot rodded amp.. Any suggestions?

If you get a plexi you will not get it to sound like his without extensive effort, get an early 70's Super Lead instead.

A C-5 is basically a bigger sounding 59, so I'd do that. With a C-5, I can nail the tones you're describing with both modelers and tube amps. I can hear the wood, strings, and tubes more with the C-5 than I can with others that have too much of their own midrange character.
