Hi folks.. I've currrently got an EMG 85 in the bridge and neck of my Washburn as I wanted to try them since the guitar seemed a little dark.. Well, it originally came with a Custom Custom which is a nice pup, but lacked something that I want.. and it had a 59 in the neck which was great.. but I typically rarely use the neck pup.. and only want to replace the bridge and I'm not even going to wire the tone control or the neck pup.. So, I'm caught between a couple choices and wanted some of you older more experienced guys opinions.. This guitar is built somewhat like a Wolfgang with a set neck and is all mahogany with a roswood board.. Gibson scale, etc.. Grover hardware, TOM bridge, etc, but I want the picup to be a lowered output model, but with that killer tone to die for. I'm a huge fan of several bands such as Thin Lizzy / John Sykes tone, Angus, Ted Nugent, etc, etc.. and I want the amp to do the work and I'm in the process of buying a new amp as I'm using a modeler now which has more than enough gain, but I just have to have a real tube amp.. I want a plexi sound and I wnat to change pups before I try the amps. I'm thinking of a Peavey 5150 combo or XXX, etc.. or Classic 50 with a couple pedals.. Which pickup though! That's the killer question.. I'm leaning toward a PG's if I can get it in F Spaced as my guitar demands it.. and again my guitar is a tad dark.. and the PG has that killer tone I love under heavy distortion when I played it in a Gibson all mohgany Flying V, etc.. I haven't played the 59 enough, but have played it in some Kramer bolt on's and it sounded great.. Any suggestions?
