That's how the Fender Robben Ford comes stock. I have that combination in an Edwards LP, and it's got a great voice. Vintage flavor with a unique bite to it. I did change the JB mag to an UOA5...helped sweeten the tone quite nicely. My RF actually has a pair of 59's...desert island guitar right there.

What players have to realize is that pickups sound different in different guitars.

Sure, their individual characteristics will remain, but those characteristics are heightened and lessened from guitar to guitar.

You can put a pickup in one guitar, and say that the pickup sounds like "this and that", but in reality it sounds like "this and that" in that particular guitar!
