59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

Thinking about one of these three to go in the neck of my alder body Telecaster. Maybe even a DiMarzio Air Classic. Can you guys give me some comparisons between these pick ups and when I can expect? Thanks in advance.

Any particular sound you're after? Might be easier to tell you which one gets you closer.

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

I've used a Jazz and APH1 without problems, the 59 can get a little bass heavy with my usual settings.

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

They're all nice and round but the Jazz is glassy, the A2P is natural, and the 59 is a little bit rock/blues.

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to be using a vintage type Tele bridge pickup and 250k pots. I have heard that the Jazz was made for 250k pots. I'm looking for a nice full, smooth, but punchy neck humbucker tone that will balance well with the bridge pickup.

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

The 59 will be ok in alder. Although many describe the Jazz as sterile, it's nice and warm with a little over drive and not over the top bright like a JB. The JB cleans up nicely if you back off the volume a bit. Would you consider a Seth neck?

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

^ I agree the Jazz has a bit of a synthetic sound. That's one of the things I like about it. The 59, A2P, and Seth are all more organic. The Seth is ultra organic.

Okay, what's the best one for 250k pots if I still want a good amount of brightness and no mud?

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

I'd go for the Jazz with the 250k pots. It is bright enough to not sound piercing with 250k and should blend really well with that Tele bridge pickup.

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

I rewired my G&L ASAT Classic Bluesboy Tribute with a Jazz in the neck and a Cavalier Fat Lion in the bridge(A5, 9.5k beefy tele s/c bridge). 250k CTS pots, and the standard Bluesboy wiring(200pf treble/vol cap, .047mf tone cap). The Jazz sounds wonderful and the middle position is amazing.

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

I do describe the Jazz as very bright; not boomy like a 59, not bouncy like a 59, quick attack, a lot of "flattish" sounding harmonic content to the notes with some glass and chime. The 59 I'd sum up as the opposite of a lot of that.

Re: 59 versus Jazz versus Alnico 2 Pro

The Jazz will be fine with a 250k pot, the 59 will probably get dark. A Jazz neck will not be super bright compared to a Tele bridge pickup. They should match up just fine.
