I wouldn't bother messing with an antiquity, to be honest. If it was me, I'd just buy a Seth and sell the antiquity (but that's just me) if it didn't work for me.

This shows how much you don't know...not only the magnet but the wire and the wind are different on a Seth and an Ant...not to mention that the tone of them are pretty different IMO and to my ears...an Ant with a full strength magnet is NOT a Seth and doesn't sound like one.

Since the EVH tone is being brought up in this thread as well as the 78 pickup i'll say this...a plain old 59 with an Alnico II magnet can get a very good EVH type tone...

+10, it does the EVH thing really well to my ears.

With 250k pots, the A2 '59 is one of the best bridge pickups I've played. It's a neat one!

Wow, I have to admit the 59 sounded awesome!!!
I had to cut some of the hights on both my AC30's because the 59 is a bright pickup.
But man, the tone I got was way more aggressive compared to the Antiquity Bridge.

can you describe the tone you were getting out of the '59s? what famous would it most closely match for your impression?


also, what pots and caps were you using with the '59?

Hmm, well something like this: harmonic, chrystal clear, not to much mids, but warm.
The Ant's do clean up somewhat better I think...

Reminds me a lot of the early alive VH1 sound

What's the biggest difference between using an A2 or A5 in the 59?

Call me crazy, but a plain 'ol 59 can definitely get you into old-school VH territory.

I think something is badly missing here.
Did anyone tested A4 magnet in Ant and/or '59? ( in bridge primarily but in neck also )
