'59 vs Jazz Neck Pickup?

Could someone describe the differences between these two pickups. I am getting a Custom in the bridge position on my Epiphone Les Paul.

I mainly use the neck pickup for clean sounds and only ocassionaly for distortion, so am really looking for the pickup with more clarity and warmth, although i do tend use the neck pickup for lead playing and solos.

Any opinions of these pickups would be much appreciated!

Sounds like you want the JAZZ. Super articulate for soloing.

59 has a lot more bass, but under distortion can be a bit muddy. Many have also found the bass to be very boomy in a les. (myself included)

Well, I have the Jazz/Custom combo in my Epi LP and I can tell you. It's an awesome combination. It will work perfectly for you.

I've had both, and to me, the 59 is muddy, unarticulate, and boomy under distortion; where the Jazz is smooth, clear, defined, and cut's through very well.

Ok i need a few more opinions on this topic to make my mind up for sure. Out of the '59 and Jazz which is the better lead guitar pickup, i'm looking for clarity, smoothness and sustain? :)

For clarity the Jazz wins hands down.

Sustain, it's a toss up because I can't tell really

Smoothness......hmmm I guess it depends on your definition. The Jazz has less bass, more mids and highs.

I also find the 59 at times to be over bass heavy and not as clear sounding...I'm going to try the PGN in my equation...I'm surprised to be the first to mention this neck pickup in the postings?

Pearly Gates kills both the 59 and Jazz in a LP.

Benjy, I've told you before, we can't have this kind of heresy, if you keep this up we're gonna have to throw down man, that's all there is to it. :13:

the 59 is more bluesy and warm and the jazz is about clarity.
I prefer the jazz overall since it has a almost single coil quality sometimes?
it has a great sheen to it and NO MUD!
