59b in the neck to balance with a hot bridge pup?

So I have been thinking of getting a 59 bridge pickup and putting it in the neck of my Dean V (mahogany body, set mahogany neck). I currently have a 59 neck pickup in the neck but it just won't balance as nice as I want it to with my bridge pickup (Bill and Becky L500XL). I really like the sound of the 59n but it just is a hair to low on volume for me to be happy, and I don't wanna have to lower my bridge pickup to make it match. I have read that the 59b is a bit louder when used in the neck, but my question is, how does it compare to the 59n? Do they sound similar, but one is louder due to its higher output? Is there another pickup I should consider that will sound very similar to the 59n? Thanks :bigthumb:

How many frets do this guitar have? 24 or 22?

Dimebag Darrel was well known for putting a 59B in the neck to balance it out. His SD set is a Dimebucker in the bridge and 59B in the neck.

Yeah, I've been trying to find videos of people using the set but I have only found one and it was from SD, and the only clean sounds they did were with heavy affects on it. I like the clean and distorted sounds of the 59n I have, but the volume difference bothers me (yeah, they are both hooked up right lol)

BloodRose has one @ the nk of his Explorer,I believe.
Can't recall if he did a mag swap or not,tho...

I've had (and probably still do) guitars with the 59B in the neck, I can't say I notice any difference between the neck model. I doubt very much if this is a swap that's worth making.
I assume you've tried lowering the 500XL or raising the 59?

I have tried raising the 59, and I lowered the l500xl a little but I ended up raising it back because I like where it is currently. I did end up purchasing a 59b to try it and see how it is, if it doesn't work, I can sell it off to my friend who wants to upgrade his pups. I have been reading more about the 59b in the neck and many people have said that it is louder then the normal neck pickup and you'll have to lower it a bit more for it to balance, so I figured that's what I was looking for. I'll update when I put it in and if it is what I wanted. Fingers crossed lol

Wasn't there a time when there was no distinction between a "neck" pickup and a "bridge" pickup?

Correct, original PAF's were the same in the neck and bridge. So technically, for the correct 59 set, they would both be bridge pickups lol Now they design neck pickups with lower output so they match better volume/tone wise.

Yeah, and it was a time when people thought the earth was flat.. wait! There are some that still think it is!

Well I got the pickup in and it matches nicely volume wise! It sounds great but it is a bit boomy. It seems if anything it has more bass then the neck model. But its good otherwise. Anymore boomyness (if thats even a word lol) and it would be to much for me. So far I like it and I think it'll stay :bigok:

I used to use a 59b with my JB. It's OK. I have never tried the '59n, TBH, but the bridge version balanced well volume-wise.
