59's Gates or Beck

I just bought a Epiphone Elitist ES-335 "64" reissue. The action and intonation are just right and the neck feel is buttery  But the electronics are lacking even tough they are USA made. I'm thinking of "59's" or Pearly gates> neck and jefbeck at the bridge :cool3:

For a nice smooth 335 type sound, i'd totally go with a set of AIIPros or Seths Really nice and sweet, but can still crunch if they need to.

59's will probally be a great all around choice. The Alnico II pro's will be just as good of a choice!

Stay far away from the JB in my opinion!

Yeah, I'd say '59s if you want a brighter, chimier sound with less complex mids. If you want a tone with a rounder, more complex midrange, and less chime, go for the AIIPros or Seths. Those three pickups share a similar wind, but the '59 uses an A5 magnet, and the AIIPros and Seths use A2s. Of course, you can always switch magnets to change the sound of the pickup. I agree with odie about the JB. I think it's too overwound for what you want out of it. That pesky high mid spike tends to make things too nasal and harsh for jazz and blues.
