5e3 ftw

Re: 5e3 ftw

As you might expect, I have found a very wide range of speaker preference during my own research. You do have a nice group to start with, though. The Golds do seem to get a lot of love.

Re: 5e3 ftw

yeah i like the gold a lot. Tried in in a similar amp. Im keen to try the classic p12q as well. The fella who is making the cab sells speakers and you can usually try out anything he has in stock so we will see how it goes. I dont know if i cant wait 3 weeks for the build tho.

Re: 5e3 ftw

that sounds like a great situation. being able to try a few speakers with your guitar and amp before choosing is sweet! im sure youll find something you like pretty quickly. mine has had a few different speakers and most of em sounded glorious. it can be a little tight with a big alnico magnet since it usually lines up with the power tubes but if you take the bell off its usually fine

hes building the cab 20mm deeper so it wont be an issue :)
Yep Eric's is a smorgasbord of amps and cabs. The last amp i had built there was based on spending an afternoon with my 335 just trying out all the options. It is a business he runs from home, but its cool and relaxed place to try out things. Even his wife is totally fine with making a racket!
re: Gerry: red fang. Yep that's definitely on the radar. Similar to a celestion gold yes? The cab builder has all teh celestions, eminence and jensens there so ill see how it goes.

the red fang sounded great in mine but it was sooo close to the power tubes that i took it out. it was only a matter of time before a tube broke in transport, the extra cba depth will solve that issue and should give the amp a little bigger sound to boot!
