5watter from Marshall is here !

Re: 5watter from Marshall is here !

I just got rid of a cheesy 5-watt tube combo. I sometimes miss having one, but I'd want a good one. This sounds like it. I'm really starting to like the kind of playing and tone the reviewer was showcasing, so I'm probably going to be GASsing hard for one of these soon.

I think we are in the same boat then mate ! ;)

I give Marshall props for keeping it built in the UK and for going wiht a 10 inch speaker but I just can't get excited about another low wattage EL84 buzzbox

Re: 5watter from Marshall is here !

As Slowgroove said, that's a basement amp, not a bedroom amp. I built an Ax84 P1extreme (7 watts?), and it was pretty ****ed loud -- too loud for the bedroom, and too loud to crank up in a townhouse without annoying the neighbors. I had to powerscale (18watt vvr circuit) the power stage to get power tube distortion at bedroom levels.

Re: 5watter from Marshall is here !

I wish they would re-issue the 6V6 powrred Studio-15.

I had one. It's a cool enough amp, but it doesn't have what I think of as "the marshall sound". It does with the stock speaker sort of, but the eq is all tinny and not enough low mids and bass. With a G12H30, it's nice, but not marshally enough. Needs the lows of the G12H30, but the upper mids of the Vintage 30. If you know a speaker that can do this, you will love this amp with that speaker.

Re: 5watter from Marshall is here !

One of my guitar store buddies said that its louder then hell when it gives up the tone...

No "pre-gain" so if you want the grind its gonna be louder then you'd expect... far from "domestic" approved volume levels, more "club approved" volume.

I haven't played or seen one... just passin' it on.
