'60 Gibson DC Junior RI Content Inside....

I found it, a new old stock '96 in Cherry. It was at a shop about an hour from my house. I looked at it about 3 weeks ago but walked out after a few things had me scratching my head. After some research, a call to Gibson and another trip back, I went for it.

What drew me back was the fat tone that this thing puts out. Much better than any of the Standard production Juniors or Specials that I've played. It just screams bare bones balls out rock guitar. I played it next to a real '57 SC in the store and the tone is pretty close, not perfect but much closer than the other Juniors and Specials.

I could tell in the store it was in desperate need of strings and some oil on the board. That's the first thing it got when I got home. Next in line is a tortoise pickgaurd if I can find one, other than that, I love it how it is.

Here are a few pics. Somewhat underwhelming but the best I could get for now.

One of those is definately on my list. I think the tortise guard will look really killer. One other thing that I think would really set it off is a creme P-90 instead of the black. With the tortise guard, it will really stand out.

When I get one, creme SD p-90's are going in it. Hot at the bridge and vintage at the neck...I'd like a 2 pup version.

Great score...hope you got a good deal on it!

Those are my favorite guitars... especially the TV Yellow ones. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I had a good '60 RI LP Special DC

Thanks for the comments.

This has definitely been a guitar that I've wanted for a while. I would have prefered TV yellow but they no longer make the '60 only a '58 and I wanted the slim neck on this particular guitar. After I played and heard this one, I knew I shouldn't let it go, it needed a good home.

I still have no idea how it's brand new after 10 years and it's completely mint. No scratches or dings and it still had the plastic on the pickgaurd and control cover. I got it for roughly what I've seen some other Historics, mostly '58's, go for on eBay. At that, I couldn't pass it up.

Absolutely awesome now go play the living snot out of it.

I swear Jr's play and sound better the worse you treat 'em.

Re: '60 Gibson DC Junior RI Content Inside....

Didn't you have one that you sold?

Yeah, but that one had "issues". That guitar still fit me more than any other guitar I've ever owned, but there was binding imperfections, it couldn't stay in tune and on the upper frets there would be some disharmonics to the notes.

Re: '60 Gibson DC Junior RI Content Inside....

I love the those guitars too, much more so than the DC....it's got that fat tenon that goes way into the body.

Damn you, that is one sweet looking JR... I really don't like the looks of the SC juniors but if I would've found one like that before I found my classic, I would've bought it in a heartbeat!

Congrats!
