well, after all my attempts to grab a nice blackface, i found this guy that has a wealth of fenders. he's selling a 68 silverface bassman for 350, and a '66 blackface bassman with the cabinet for 1100. I'm gonna try them out soon, gimme your input guys.

no that is definately not worth it

you can pick up a blackface for around 350 ebay

and cabs, well, avatar, cheap cheap cheap

Re: '66 blackface bassman head and cab-deal or not?

what are these avatar cabs you speak of and where can i get them

Re: '66 blackface bassman head and cab-deal or not?

after looking around ebay, the best deal i could get was 1050 for a 67 bassman and cabinet, for just the head i could get it from this dude for around 500...This is an original 66, and the guy lives a couple of minutes from my house.

Shipping for a 30 pound bass man and a 70 pound cab would be incredibly expensive...

The head/cab sets are always kind of steep simply because they are sets. From what I have seen around here, the BF are going up in price. I think it depends on what you want to do...if you are going to mod it significantly, the SF might be the better deal.

i think it's an AA165, if it isn't it's all in the tone for me, ill try it out. I'm sure it sounds great, and better than the deluxe reverb.

Re: '66 blackface bassman head and cab-deal or not?

There will be no reverb on those bassman heads, but the price is right. If the silverface is not the one with the bias adjustment circuit, it can be modded quickly and easily by a decent tech.

I still say you gotta find an old non-reverb Rivera Knucklehead KH55. 55 watts of EL34 tone that sounds like a sweet fender channel and an awesome plexi channel as well.

thanks for the advice scott, i think if i can reel in some cash ill buy the '66 with the cab, if not im going to buy the SF and tweak it up to blackface standards with the remaining cash.
