68 Tele pickups?

Can anyone here recommend to me a set of Tele pickups that will get me close to the sound of the pickups that came stock on Teles that Fender spit out between 68-70?

Im thinking you will need to go with the duncan custom shop or a booteek winder like oc duff, rumplestiltskin, Klein, etc.

Wow, I actually am not sure.

That date isn't a peculiar one for telecasters so not many people have deliberately sought to replicate that specific tone from them, unlike the stratocaster thanks to Hendrix. Doesn't mean it is a bad year or time or anything, it just means it's rare. Fender essentially had the same pickup specs on their models post 65 and into the early 70s, so anything within that whole era should be able to cover what you are asking for.

This means, from what I can find:
Staggered Alnico V pole piece magnets.
Around 6.5-7.5 dc resistance.
Plain enamel copper wire.
Lacquer dipped potting.
42 gauge wire for the neck position and bridge.
Gray bottoms.
Copper plated steel plate for the bridge.

I think the Creamery has some 67 style tele pickups that you should look into, but I'm not sure of how expensive they are. Mostly because they are hand/scatterwound while the originals were machine wound.

In your search for those pickups, also keep in mind that '68 Teles used a 1 MOhm volume pot, not 250 KOhm. You might get the right sort of pickup, but if you have a 250K pot, it might sound a hair too warm for what you want. (I assume you want thin and bright, if you are after Tele pickups of that period specifically.)

A good place to start is the Antiquity II set, which was built to get the 1960's tone of a Tele. If there is something specific that those pickups don't offer, you could have the Custom Shop alter the wind to your liking.
