6L6 heads

Do you guys have any good ideas regarding 6L6 heads 60-120 watts?

I have in mind the fender super-sonic and the crate BV120HB...

Do you have any other proposals that will give me a good value for money?

I want it hor the clean channel, I don't play metal. I will use it with a solid body guitar and a hollowbody both with humbuckers.

Thanks
Andreas

Re: 6L6 heads

I played a super sonic combo at gc yesterday for about 15 minutes. It was the first one I've seen here. It seems to me that you can probably get a lot of different flavors out of it.

A laney gh100 series would be good, or vc combo, in fact a vc-30 is probably great (its basically a vox ac30, but this is under your power specifications). Anything fender should obviously work well clean too.

Best of my advise out of what i have used, but i dont play clean much

Re: 6L6 heads

Go laney, they are the most versatile amps I've found yet. If you are going to focus on clean then get a VC combo and run it like a head or get a gh-100L as mentioned. I have the 4 channel version the Vh-100R because I switch between styles a lot. Never had a problem with mine and can always get the sound I want. They can be very hot on the lead channel but clean is where they shine. Plus you can get a real good price on them from ebay...

Re: 6L6 heads

A laney is basically a fender clean section with a hot rodded marshall overdrive section. IMO

Peavey 5150, ENGL Powerball, VHT 100 CL with 6L6, Soldano Avenger, Soldano SLO-100, Soldano Decatone, ENGL Fireball, Mesa Dual, single and tripple rectifier, and Peavey Valve king.

havent heard soldano, or engls, but all the rest there ive tried and found horrible for clean

Re: 6L6 heads

I loved the Super Sonic's clean, and I really dig my early SF Bassman head (blackface circuit).

Dual Showman amps are cool also, as are the Mesa Mk series heads.

Re: 6L6 heads

If you're not into metal, the Crate Blue Voodoo is overkill.
I'd suggest ordering the Fender blonde Supersonic head and matching 2-12 cab.
The tones are more solid with the head/2-12 than the combo. I like old Fenders too, but the Supersonic has some nice features. I think you can even bias them with a voltmeter without taking the chassis out.

Re: 6L6 heads

120 watts of blue voodoo will not fit your needs i think!A Fender is the way to go i think.Or if you have more money ,go boutiqe.

He plays clean stuff, man. That pretty much rules out the 5150, SLO, Avenger, and Single rec.

Re: 6L6 heads

I am basically looking for sparkling cleans in a head. I won't say no to a good distortion as well... It's a huge plus!

Re: 6L6 heads

As far as amps I've played and owned, I wasn't crazy about the clean channel for cleans on the Blue Voodoo. Cranked up it gave a nice dirty overdrive but for pure cleans, no. I've got a 71 Univox amp--you know, the blue heads, 60 watts and the cleans are really nice--but it breaks up really early. I would assume the 100 watters would have much more headroom. You can get them used for a good price. Probably cheaper than the BV.

If you don't mind solid state, the Roland JC series amps like the JC 77, JC 120 etc are great clean amps. Gotta use the chorus to get that deep rich sound, but it sounds heavenly imo.

Re: 6L6 heads

Do you need 60 watts? A suersonic head would be really nice, as well as a bassman or bandmaster head.

Re: 6L6 heads

Peavey JSX = good cleans and good distortion. They ship w/ EL34's but have a bias switch for 6L6's and 6L6's sound pretty darn good in it.
