7 string black out metal phase II?

im supposedly buying a dean razorback257, which is a badass 7 string. but, it comes with emg 707's, which i would prefer to not have. since they are big and stupid, my only choice of pickup swaps that i know would be the blackouts. i plan on getting blackouts anyway, but this is a good excuse to get them.do they make the blackout metal in a seven string version? would this be custom, or possibly shop floor custom?

not sure on the ii's, im sure they will be released in time.
Cant see why they would'nt be.
Sure someone else will have a better idea

I have heard nothing of a Phase II Metal version, but they are just now releasing the 6-string version to dealers so it could possibly happen at a later date. The original Livewires were never offered in 7-String that I know of ...

Re: 7 string black out metal phase II?

I have one Livewire Metal 7-string -the Custom Shop "sleeper" (no cover) that was made about '94 if I remember right~ it took about a month to get it after ordering and was c. $300 (?).
I've not yet installed it in anything because the UniVerse-7 (though I had several in that period from '91-'98) I deemed unworthy -and all companies thereafter likewise (yup had them ALL)...
and now that I have my own company there is only one that I've made that's truly WORTHY of it: An experimental higher-string Star shape having the Kahler trem (w/bass springs) and 36 stainless frets!

It has a Blackout Bridge currently (there's only room for one!) and I'm thinking the old LWMET-7 would be the next proper step (it requires 18v so that'll expand the 9v recess to a double-wide battery box)!

I'm after a custom 7 string active that might suit you - depending on the tone you want.

Wow, was there a LW-HMET 7 ?! I'd never heard of that. Anybody got any video of it ;)

Re: 7 string black out metal phase II?

You should try the AHB-3 EMTY Blackouts 7 string pickups. They sound even better than the Blackouts Metal IMHO, a bit thicker/meatier tone. They should fit the old EMG707 cavities.

EDIT: I just checked out the AHB-2 Blackouts Metal pups, the site says nothing about it being available in 7 string, so the EMTY's might fit the bill.

The only non-custom 7 string blackouts are the original AHB-1's and the AHB-3 EMTY's. Both are available phase 1 and phase 2.

Also if your primary motivation for replacing the EMG 707's is that they are "big and stupid", the phase II Blackouts are the exact same size and look identical except for the logo.

Re: 7 string black out metal phase II?

Actives need to be as close as possible to the strings for their signal to be filled by the picked up strings, that's why I chose Kahler for the Blackout.
The LWMET-7 is like a JB with a 1Meg no-load pot into a Fender Amp -It's BRIGHT (some of that may be the Maple and higher string too), so I'm gonna try putting it through an EMG RPC to dial it in -like an onboard Gain control (my Output Jack under the wing has a small hole for this)!
Here's some pics of the pickup from the shop -I'll record some stuff with it once I control the early '80s 'hairiness' of it! This'd be a great pickup for a 7-position slide switch having every tone-cap (and none) to demo the differences!
Does anybody know what the Magnet is in this (it sounds like a Ceramic!)?

Re: 7 string black out metal phase II?

I've heard that the Neck position Blackouts clean up nicely with the pot, if that is available for 7-strings in the Phase-1 size I'd love to try that as a Bridge position in this guitar!

I think the "Metal" thing isn't necessary with todays amps & processors -unless (as with the LWMET) you want IT strait from the Guitar -at 18volts & 1amp line-level(!) this doesn't need Gain, much less a Distortion -but doesn't clean up...
maybe there's a way to doubly wire it to a push-pull having dual-mode high/low?
