7 string bridge pickup

Jomo's Nimions
My instinct says JB, but there's like a million new metal pickups I've never tried, so...

This is for a cheapo Schecter Revenger. I'm going for a 1987-early 90's thrash metal tone. Not looking to cop any specific sound, but something in line with that era. Maybe more on the Testament "The Ritual" end of things than the ultra-middy Slayer end. Anyway...

Back in the day, I would've gone with a JB or EMG 81 and been happy. The guitar is basswood & bolt-on. I'm playing through a couple cheap modeling amps, and a Super Reverb with a Radial Tonebone Plexi pedal. Believe it or not, I can get close to the sound I'm after with my Texas Special loaded Strat (yep, singles), with the bridge tone rolled down to 4 or 5. Point being, I'm not worried about the amp or pedal not delivering what I'm after.

So, should I go with the old favorites, or look at a Nazgul, Black Winter, etc...?

The Pegasus is a remarkable metal pickup, too. As a bonus, it has a usable clean sound, too.

I just watched the 6 String Metal Bridge Pickup demo. First off, that's probably the most effective pickup demo I've ever seen. Second, the Pegasus was a definite standout, along with the Custom, Dimebucker, EMTY, and (surprise, surprise) the JB.

Now, how well would the Pegasus work in a H-S-S with a couple Texas Special singles? I wanted to keep my Strat all singles for the bluesy stuff, but I almost never use my bridge pickup then.

Well, it will be much higher output, I am guessing. Which may be what you are going for in this setup.

Re: 7 string bridge pickup

My 7 string came stock with the Duncan Designed version of the JB in the bridge. I liked it. I like it even better since I swapped out the A5 for a regular ceramic.
