7 String Dimebucker?!?

Hey there everyone! I'm fairly new at this, so bear with me, lol.

I was reading on Seymour's website that they can make 7-string versions of just about any pickup. In fact, here's a quote from the site itself...

"Our 7-string production humbucker line includes the '59 neck and bridge, the Distortion neck and bridge, the Invader neck and bridge, the Jazz neck, the JB, and the Duncan Custom. But what if you want a 7-string version of one of our other humbucker models? We can make 7-string humbuckers with a variety of specifications. Do you have a favorite pickup that isn't made in a 7-string version?"

So of course, me being a metalhead, and my experience with the Dimebucker that i threw into my Avalanche a few years ago (like RIGHT AFTER it came out) has been just AWESOME! It gives me EXACTLY what i'm looking for: Insane Metal ownage like swift kick in the pants with steel boots...and asking for more! It's interesting because the Dimebucker is still somewhat of an underdog in the SD pickup world, it looks like, seeing how most people tend to go for the Full Shred or the SH-6b.

Back to the reason for this post...has anyone ever heard of or seen a 7-String version of a Dimebucker? Or does anyone know if whether or not it is a possibility of it being made, even though it has a pretty high output on its own? I'm contacting them directly, but I was hoping to get some feedback prior. I've been wanting to upgrade my stocks in my Ibanez GRX720 to a sick "metal" pickup at the bridge with either a 59n or sh-6n (either one 7-string version, obviously)

Anyway, thanks to any and all who help in this matter! Or replies in general. Whatever strums your axe.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

it should be able to be made if you contact the custom shop but it wil cost a lot more money than a 6 string dimebucker

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

Sounds interesting... I never really could get into the Dimebucker, personally. But a 7 string blade pickup just seems to make sense to me somehow. Especially for shredders as it doesn't have a slight lack of volume during bends (that I almost NEVER notice, but hey, it happens). Let us know how it goes!

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

I know! I think it's gonna be awesome! And I'm very confident the guys at SD can pull it off too - They're the only ones i trust for pickups, no lie. I've seen Dimazarios, they were ok, and EMG's? LMAO, nice try...too much muddy garbage! Hands down, SD owns! Now, if and when this can happen, I just have to find a pickguard that is specifically for Ibanez 7-strings, 1-HUM 1 volume knob config, in black. Now THAT'S been a challenge to find!!

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

IIRC the topic already came up once and a 7-string dime is near impossible to get. The 6-string version uses oversized blades i think and those aren't made in 7-string version. Getting a Dime-7 would mean to have Duncan make the blades from ground up and that would be extremely costly unless you take about 100 pups or so.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

I'm sure it is, but you know what? It couldn't hurt to try. Besides, I look at it as an investment. If people are willing to shell out several thousands of dollars for a custom guitar, or one that's built with rare wood and such, than a few hundred for a killer pickup couldn't hurt. But let's see what the guys at SD say. Because you have to admit: It couldn't hurt to try.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

definitely will hurt your wallet ;)
There are lots of great pups to be had for way less money than a Dime-7 especially when considering that it's for a 300$ guitar. If you want to spend custom shop level prices you might want to go for a Full Shred 7 or look at Bare Knuckle Pickups(handwound in england).
Also having a closer look at some regular 7-string pups might be good before shelling out that kind of money.
I'd look at the Custom-7 Dimarzio Evolution-7/X2N-7/D-Sonic-7

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

I appreciate the feedback. I may just head towards a Full Shred 7. As long as it's heavy enough to give my axe some super cojones for metal playing, it will work. I only trust SD though. But thanks all the same!

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

The Dimebucker is totally different from the Full Shred. If it's Dimebucker tone you want, if the SD Custom Shop can handle your request, and if you are willing to wait for it and pay for it, it sounds like it would be awesome.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

I would say, there is not a snowballs chance in hell of getting a 7 string Dimebucker.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

So I just got word back from an SD dude and he told me the following (this is straight from the email i got:

"The Dimebucker is a signature pick and Dimebag Darrell didn't use it in a seven string guitar. If you want a pickup close to the Dimebucker in seven string, try the Duncan Distortion."

So the duncan distortion it is. It's a lot easier to find anyway. So i'll prolly get 2 of those (SH-6b and SH-6n) or a SH-6b and an SH-1n (the 7 string '59). I've heard a lot of good things about those as great combos for metal.

Either way, thanks for everyone's feedback, it's much appreciated!

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

Don't get a Distortion-7 an alder guitar. I've tried one and it's terribly harsh and barking. i like the 6er version but the 7 imo isn't the right thing for an alder 7-string like your Ibanez. I'd go for the Custom-7 since it has more balls and isn't as harsh as the Distortion.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

Forgive me for asking, but what do you mean by "harsh and barking"? You mean like it has to high of an output and it picks up even the slightest of movements?

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

I've tried it in an alder superstrat(my jackson dr-7) probably quite similar to your ibanez and the treble was just way to much, i just couldn't dial it out without turning the sound into mud. Really harsh and unpleasant highs to my ear.
With barking i meant that the attack on muted stuff was loud but not really defined and clear more like a dog barking really low not like a real clear punch. It's kinda hard to describe.
Since you probably like the really tight and punchy tone dime had i think you will probably like either the Custom-7 or Dimarzio Evolution-7 better

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

How about this idea:

Find a DiMarzio X2N-7 and have the Duncan custom shop re-wind to Dimebucker specs.

How about this idea:

Find a DiMarzio X2N-7 and have the Duncan custom shop re-wind to Dimebucker specs.

It is totally not the same thing considering a Dime is in a plastic tub and the X2N has a metal baseplate. That and a number of other different factors will not even get it in the ball park.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

I now see what you mean about the "harsh" and "barking". I was thinking of possibly trying out both the custom 7 and the sh-6 and just see what happens. Although, Pinto's idea isn't half bad either. I'll write back and give that a shot too. I'm open to just about anything, and if they can re-wind it, it might as well have been a dimebucker-7 to begin with, lol, and i'll get all three and just wing it for results. Nice.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

Of course, RIGHT AFTER that post, i see Theodie's, so now it's either the custom 7 or the sh-6. Nice.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

Tough...
Distortion 7 won't make you happy in alder as Chief said...
Custom do not have the screaming qualities what Dimebucker has ,A FullShred 7 is a great thing ,but in ALder would lack Bottom end...
But if you can pay for a CustomShop Pu ,why won't you let you build some real custom PU...You can let MJ wind a PU only for your specs ,and that thing is going to be killer...
The only problem would be ,taht you have to know what you want and what you are talking about...Since it's custom made ,the Description have to be %100 accurate to get what you want..
Call MJ and ask her what she recommends ,and would do...The price and shipment time can vary...
