7 String Dimebucker?!?

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

How about an Invader-7? A fellow axeman just mentioned that to me a bit ago and he uses that at the bridge for his heavy tones, with a '59 - 7 at the neck for clean tones.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

IMO the Invader isn't tight enough for more technical playing involving the low B or lower. it's sweet if you are more into chugging along but for faster stuff with lots of single notes and string skipping it's not clear enough. it might work though if your guitar is seriously bright.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

See that's the thing. My ibanez is pretty versatile in that it can go really bright or chunky low. And btw, what's IMO? I've seen that before, but of course, being somewhat of a nublet, idk. So SD pup wise, since i don't trust any other pups, what are my options?

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

With bright in this case i didn't mean the versatillity you get from twisting knobs but the basic tonal properties of the guitar itself. This mainly means what the guitar sounds like unplugged. if it's rather bright an invader can work, if it's rather dark an invader will probably mud things up. Wood and construction form the basic tone of the guitar that can be modeled further with the right choice of pickups.
IMO = In my oppinion
From the Duncan lineup i'd say try the custom. but i really suggest at least looking at the Dimarzio 7-string line. it's not a coincidence that there are more 7-string players out there that play DMZ than SD, they make some killer pups for 7-string metal.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

Hmm, interesting...ok, if you say that there are some killer 7-string metal pups from DMZ, which ones do you recommend? I guess i'll have to break out of my SD "Bubble" and expand. But hey, it's cool. Suggestions anyone?!?!?

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

Since you really like the Dimebucker i think either the D-Activator 7 and Evolution-7 could be what you want.
The DA is a lot like an EMG 81, very clear punchy, tight and sharp, geared towards upper mids and treble. but like the 81 it imo sounds a little bland and doesn't have much character on its own
I love the Evo-7 in my alder superstrat. Like the DA it's very clear, punchy, lots of cut because of treble and presence, and harmonics like no other. maybe not 100% as tight as the DA but it's still extremely tight and compareable to the dimebucker in that aspect.
With those two it depens if you want a rather neutral sound or a sound with more character of its own.
And read the descriptions on the dimarzio homepage, they are pretty much spot an,same goes for their eq values.

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

It's interesting, but considering the fact the body of your superstrat is the same that my ibanez is, if you say that the Evo-7 or the DA is the way to go for some serious metal PwNaGe, then guess what? That's what i'll fish for. And plus, i actually have found em for cheaper too! I'm a HUGE fan of Punchy tone, with high cuts and attack, since me an Pinch Harmonics are like BFF 4 Life! LOL...Good stuff amigo, i'll keep you posted, once i get the cash for such an investment. Especially since i'm fishing for a pickguard that only gives me a bridge pickup, one volume knob setup, much like that of my avalanche strat. Thanks again dude!

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

BTW, I found a guy who would make a custom pickguard for me, even though he's on the otherside of the country. The total cost for the pickguard, shipping and everything comes out to about $50, which isn't bad for a CUSTOM IBANEZ 7-STRING GUITAR PICKGUARD! Slowly but surely, my dream of achieving optimal 7-string shredding conditions are slowly coming to fruition...Thanks again everyone! \m/ >_< \m/

Re: 7 String Dimebucker?!?

Due to the fact that I'm running on minimal sleep and even less food (lol) I was kinda lost there, Kenpachi :-). I took it as you hoping that I find what I'm looking for, and if so, it is much appreciated. As always, thanks for the feedback and support. *bows, followed by a poof, some smoke, and a replacement technique with a log that came out of nowhere* :-)
