7 string pickup choice

First time question, long time lurker.

Recently I had an Ibanez RG7620 7 string taken to a local tech. The guitar was built in ‘97 and was the first “real” guitar I ever owned since a teenager. I wanted to get it set up properly, frets leveled etc and we opted to upgrade the electronics. I replaced the OG pickups prior to the tech drop off with a Full Shred in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck. The tech replaced the jack with a switch craft, 1 meg volume pot (from 500k Ibanez pot) and and a higher quality American mage 500k tone pot set to remove the tone from the circuit when all the way up. The 5 way selector was replaced with a more robust 3 way since I never use the coil splits on this guitar.

Once I got the guitar back the volume and treble response differences between pickups seem too large to reconcile. I cannot dial in a tone that suits both pickups without one of them sounding undesirable to me. Either I didn’t really notice it before hand or the new electronics made it more apparent to me. I seem to have too options to look at. The Full Shred seems more wooly and quiet than the Jazz neck which is louder and much brighter. This leaves me with replacing one of them I believe. The tech looked at all the parts and verified they were working correctly. At 14k vs 8 k I am not sure why the bridge pickup would be quieter than the neck, but both pickups were purchased used. The Jazz is as low as I can get it and the Shred is quite high to compensate the volume differences.

I have personally been really digging the 57 classic pickups in my Les Paul and have been thinking about doing something like that but slightly hotter as a bridge option. The other option would be to toss something similar to a Full Shred neck in and just dial in more high end.....sort of at a loss.
Genre is hard rock to metal, playing style is mostly lead but I do my own riff writing etc as I do all my own music from a home studio. Amps are a variety of Kranks, a modded JCM 800 2210, and a Carvin Legacy II. I tend to be treble adverse and the Kranks can be a bit tough to dial that out of. The Jazz is borderline too bright for me in those amps but quite good in the Legacy. I’m looking for a pickup that has good dynamics, response to my picking as well as good clarity. I used to be a high output pickup kind of guy but gradually seem to be going to more moderate pickups. Sorry so long, but any suggestions?

Re: 7 string pickup choice

1 meg is making things brighter. Go back to 500k or even 250k to get it a little warmer.

I'm not a wiring guru, but maybe you have something wired wrong.FS is superclear, has tight bass and pronounced highs, nothing the way you described it.

Update, there was in fact a bad connection on the wire going to the selector switch. Stripped and soldered and working like a top now!
