80 bucks + fee + ship gets you my ****ed up Blackouts.

Re: 80 bucks + fee + ship gets you my ****ed up Blackouts.

Blackouts have a quick connect prong and a regular wire so u can hook them up either way. He is/was using the quick connect but since he was using the quick connect he cut the regular wire off the bottom of the pickup. It sounds like he cut it real close n now can't tape it off and ground it and is getting hum.

Re: 80 bucks + fee + ship gets you my ****ed up Blackouts.

that can be fixed man, there's a thread somewhere on here that shows how to add wire to a pickup lead. the method shown just involves some solder and some heat shrink. you could do it yourself or have someone do it for you instead of just getting rid of the pickups. with the extra lengths attached you can then snip them down to the necessary size where you can ground everything correctly

Re: 80 bucks + fee + ship gets you my ****ed up Blackouts.

Problem is (if I am understanding correctly) he cut the wire almost flush with the baseplate except for a thumbnail size amount of lead left (maybe a 1/4"). That is going to be impossible to strip the casing, and then strip the individual 4 wire leads and then isolating them individually.

Also getting into the pickup to remove the wire is also a no go, as these are epoxy filled meaning you aren't going to get inside it without totally hacking it up, potentially creating a much larger problem.

Just send them in man. I'll bet you, SD, will either cut you a sweet deal on fixing the ones you have, or send you different ones for next to nothing.
