Sev weeks ago, I was watching this old youtube clip of Dimebag Darrell..when he was a kid....during his "solo spotlight"..very common in a 80s metal concert...

you know...where the band is in the middle of a song...they slow it down....then the singer yells something like..."Ladies and Gentlemen...Mr. (insert guitarists name here) on GUITARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrr"...and then the guy wanks off for 3-15 minutes....

So I decided to do a "spoof" on this that day after watching the dimebag vid...I forgot I had this on my compy and just found it this morning.. :laugh2: ....This is the Dean ML, VoxAD15 and sounds like the Marshall TSL setting ..I dont remember.......enjoy all the mistakes and neckbends and the $hitpile of delay....

I suffered through Kirk Hammet's 20 min solo. I wanted to kill him. He finally stopped when someone threw a bottle at him. I'm glad that this crap is now somewhat rare.

Dude you totally nailed the spotlight! when ever you slow down and do that downtune thing thats when everyone would start cheering.

Awesome! Jeff, you are definetly one of my favorite players on the forums, I wish I could play as well as you do!

Now what I always wondered...what if the singer is also the guitarist taking the solo? How would he introduce himself for the solo, or would another band member do that? (Wondering because I'm thinking of pulling off one of these at my bands first gig)

IDK if its a sad thing or not...but assuming a skilled player...I miss these days. Randy..Jake...Viv and Adrian V...Mathias....Sykes...those guys really were awesome to behold during the solo spotlight..(and I'm sure I've forgotten some others I saw...)

Mick Mars...and Kirk Hammet....yeah...I really wish I could forget those two..

At work, so can't listen to the clip now. Yeah, i love motley, but Mars's solos are not that great, however his stuff in songs is solid, Kirk was the who really anoyed me too, especially with his whah wankage. I love Kirks stuff on songs. Coolest solos I saw was Iommi on the reunion tour and Lynch on first Mob tour, both had a nice minor keybord chord progression looping as a background so there ware some musical ideas and themes instead of " Oh, look Ma', a whammy bar dive right after an arpegio sweep ... AGAIN.

And Mars' solo when I saw him (SATD) was just awful divebomb after divebomb and "motorcycle driving away" noise on that black BC Rich Flying V he had... :earl:

EDIT: PS all that 'downtune stuff" is just neck bends (I just did those when I was trying to figure out what to do next, lol)...could ya hear the crowd roar?
