'88 American Standard Tele questions...

So I stumbled across a used '88 Standard Tele for $700 with the hardshell case. It plays well and sounds good but is in need of a new set of stings.

The guitar is black with a rosewood board and I'd give condition an 8.5/10. There are some small nicks on the back of the neck where it looks like they kept leaning the guitar against something. There are a few small scuffs and another nick on the back but the top looks exceptionally clean except for a few swirl marks which are expected on a black guitar.

It it worth the money? I'm not familiar with used Fender prices much past the last 10 or so years. Is there anything else I should be looking out for? The frets look good, the neck is straight and all of the electronics work as they should. This would sort of be a hold over until I find a '62 AVRI in Surf Green, so I'm hoping I can buy it, play it for a while and sell it and get my money back.

Any help would be much appreciated!

I don't know current prices either.
If it were me, I'd have to do a search on Ebay, including sold items, to see what a fair price is now.

I checked eBay and Gbase and they seem to range anywhere from $500 to over $1000 depending more or less on color and condition, I can't really figure out any othe reason why there is such a large gap.

I might offer him $600 and see what he does.

I sold a '91 Tele in really good condition, black w/ maple board, late last year for $750.00 if that tells ya anything.

I think thats a pretty good price, not great but good.....80's models are starting to climb in price.....mid 90's models go for a little less sometimes, especially black, there's alot of those. A maple fretboard is usually more desirable on Tele's. Just my $0.02 USD

Those guitars have a logo that's silver with a black outline, which differenciates them from 90's+ with a gold spaghetti logo. Also, an extra string tree. Other than that, they're about the same.

I'd pay $700 for a minty one, but $600 for one with dings on it.

It wasn't until the mid-90's that they changed the logo to the gold spaghetti logo, 1995 I think. My '94 Strat has the silver logo and my '91 Tele had the silver logo.
