$900 Dollar Tube Screamer

Re: $900 Dollar Tube Screamer

Old desirable things often command high prices. Modifying them usually kills that value.

Re: $900 Dollar Tube Screamer

Yeah, $900 would be pushing it in mint/stock condition, once you touch a soldering iron to it, the value totally drops, half that is probably still high, way too high for this guy.

Re: $900 Dollar Tube Screamer

Perhaps this guy lives next to some other guy that sold his original Klon for $2,000.00. He saw that and said “What do I have for pedals I can sell for big bucks,.....oh, yeah. That tube screamer!”

Re: $900 Dollar Tube Screamer

You don't have to live next to someone nowadays, it's all on the interwebs!

Re: $900 Dollar Tube Screamer

Yeah, upgrades. Reminds me of the bad old days when we hogged out perfectly nice Les Pauls and put Kramers and Floyds in them. Hey, they were just used guitars back then, and we had no idea this whole "vintage" thing would explode.

But that TS will never sell for near that amount of cash.

Re: $900 Dollar Tube Screamer

I just sold my original Klon last night for $1600. It was kinda surreal, being handed enough cash to buy a nice guitar for a pedal I bought 18 years ago for $240..

Re: $900 Dollar Tube Screamer

Out of a gazillion klon copies on the market, at least some of them have to sound as good or better than the original,,,surely. (?)

Out of a gazillion 1967 Plexi copies on the market, at least some of them have to sound as good or better than the original,,,surely. (?)

Re: $900 Dollar Tube Screamer

It's just a lot to pay for nostalgia IMO.

I guess it's easier for me to see the "collector's value" in old/unique/special guitars as opposed to pedals, amps, or electronics in general.
Value is in the eye of the beholder I guess, and there might well be someone out there willing to pay 5-10x what the original price was or even the modern equivalent amount.

I understand, but there is something there. As I mentioned in the last Klon thread, Ibanez/Maxon made more TS9s in one quarter of 1982 than Bill made Klons total. There were less than 2000 Klons made ever. This Ibanez is ridiculous because of how many there are (even of this vintage).

Save your bucks. Any pre-2004 Ibanez TS808 reissue will give you the same sound.
