A/B/Y swith with two input amp

Lots of folks like to run their signal to two amps and switch between them or play them together to get a layered sound. I am interested in this because I love the sound get playing through two amps, one clean, the other overdriven. I have a question for the electronics experts out there. If I have an amp with two inputs (Fender Princeton RI), can i split my signal with the a/b/y box and run clean to one input and the other through my effects chain to the other and get the same layered sound and ability to switch between inputs instead of amps? Just wanted to know if anyone else had tried this or if I would get some weird electrical response before I bought an a/b/y and tried it myself. Thanks for the help

if the amp in question is the '65 ri then no. you need two seperate channels with volume controls to make this work. the two signals will be mixed back together before they hit the first gain stage on two input single channel amps. itll sound a little different maybe but probably not worth the effort. give it a try and see what happens.

I'd think it's worth a try, particularly as you won't need a ground-isolated ABY for that application.

to split signal, ive used boss tu-2 tuning pedal, its got two output and does the job just as good as an aby for me.

Might look into the Barber Launch Pad? I have a friend who bought one from me and is using it as an A/B switcher between the two channels of one of his Fender amps - one he prefers for clean and the other for use with his dirt pedals. It does have separate volume controls for each side.

The manual also describes how to use the Launch Pad as a Phase Corrector to run the channels of a Fender Amp in parallel, never did try it myself though.

I'm pretty sure you have to set it up for one application or the other though, it is a different animal than an A/B/Y switcher.

The Launch Pad is a pretty cool pedal, I've used it as a clean boost (very high headroom), an A/B switcher and a DI plus there are several other ways this pedal can be utilized. http://www.barberelectronics.com/LaunchPad.pdf
