A big WTF!??!?!?!?

nuntius

Boogeyman of Tone
i was playing my gordon smith jamming on my own, and i usually do a lot of pup switching while i do, just for different sounds (i also split coils a lot and roll the volume back etc)

for no reason whatsoever the volume on the bridge humbucker has cut to about a quarter of what it was, sounds like a really weak single coil.

but the weirdest thing is - when i select the neck pup, everythings fine, volume does volume, tone does tone

when i select the bridge pup the volume does nothing and the tone is now the volume pot :smack: :smack: :smack:

what the hells gone on? it just happened while i was messing around. it seems i've unlocked a secret "mode" on my guittar but i want it working normally again!!

anyone know what i've done or whats gone wrong??

Re: A big WTF!??!?!?!?

wel it seems that something shorted or a bad connection came loose......your gonna have to check the inside and tell us if you see anything loose or not connected

Re: A big WTF!??!?!?!?

oh man there is a lot of wires in this small space.

tbh its like me trying to read arabic i dunno wtf to look for

Re: A big WTF!??!?!?!?

It sounds to me like you lost the "Ground" connection off the volume pot.
That would be one of the "end" wires. Not the center. Inspect them closely.

Re: A big WTF!??!?!?!?

Thats hard to say, depending on what p'ups you have.

The easier thing would be to look closely. One of the wires from one end of the volume pot should trace back to either the "sleeve" of the output jack, or be soldered to the back of a pot.

This is one of those cases where a cheap multimeter would be invaluable.
Even a cheap $20 Radio Shack one could save you a lot of time and heartache. ;)

Edit: Do they have RS in England?

Re: A big WTF!??!?!?!?

i think so.

ah well, i'll get my guitar teacher to look at it, or just play another guitar till i get that new bridge installed on it and have the tech look at the wiring also
