A Black G&L and a Brown G&L Walk into a Bar

I don't know what the punchline is, but two black G&Ls walk out. First: Deep before pics from the eBay auction my dad bid on three years ago:

After pics - Changes include NOS saddles, rubber tips on the switches, and a full Nitro/ReRanch refin:

Oh, I said two walked out didn't I:

Still sounds great; but I'm not handling it much for a few months - even though the finish seems really hard. No clue if I'm going to remove the black paint from the knobs (it was rattled by PO over chrome,) but I feel like leaving it for now.

Special thanks to ItsaBass and the others who helped me in the refin thread; I didn't always take everyone's advise, but I had fun correcting things when I didn't.

Discriminationalist slang for race and gays and lesbians.... oh my

The black is nice for sure, but never in a million years would I have covered up that beautiful mahogany.

But the black does look badass! Good job.

Thanks - After the point I grain filled & sealed it, I paused for a moment and thought about that; because it *really* did look pretty good. It basically took reminding myself how easy nitro can be stripped off to convince myself to keep going.

On the other hand since I found myself with the time availability, space, confidence and energy to do the refin (and since the return of either of those things at any point in the future is not guaranteed) I decided to keep going back to the factory black :D

Well I let both of them in the bar.

When you first mentioned this project I thought to myself "eh, I think it would look better in trans satin", but it sure ended up looking pretty good. The gloss has almost nonexistent "warp" and the black fretboard markers match it pretty well too.
