This is probably my favourite song that my band does. It's a bit more chill and not as heavy as our other stuff:

I didn't hear the Maiden influence in there but it definitely had the Sabbath vibe. Pretty cool.

Les Paul clone w/Bare Knuckle Black Dogs > Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone for the sustaining bits > Xotic BB Preamp or z.vex SHO > Bumbox Cielo

into ...

Randall iso cab with a Scumback M75 (small dustcap)

into ...

SM57/api mic preamp/Tascam interface

Yeah I'll listen to that one again. It would sound cool if you put some modulation effects on some of the guitar parts and maybe compressed the vocals a bit. Just a suggestion, but great song nevertheless.

good to know great tones can be had with an iso-cab. i've heard a lot of people slag those things.

It's just like anything else -- you have to be willing to put the time into matching the speaker, amp, and microphone to the track you're recording. It took me ... about 2 years of experimenting until I found a combination of pedals, amp heads, loudspeakers, and microphones that did what I wanted them to do.
