I keep developing more and more respect for those who post clips frequently here. It's hard enough to get set up, find a semi-decent sound, etc., but what really kills me is the "stage fright" I get when I know I'm recording myself. Not that I don't suck anyway, but I get even worse when I know I'm going to be posting. I really get stiff and whatever soul I have in my playing seems to go down the toilet. Thanks to all who have the guts to post here.

Here are a couple clips I recorded with the Barber Direct Drive (hopefully I won't be hearing from Barber's lawyers in the morning). The first clip is an atttempt at a crunch rhythm and the second is meant to illustrate just a slight, slight boost--the first solo is just guitar and amp and the second solo is the DD with the drive at around 9:00. Forgive the sloppiness and bad recording...I'm just learning how to record with a mic'd amp.

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

dude, I don't know why you say you suck =) it's not sloppy, it's in key, and the recording quality's pretty good! Now, what's this direct drive thingy you're talking about? I never heard of it...

anywho, I'm the same way with recording...or maybe I just don't notice my screw ups as I'm playing..lol...but I get stage fright a little too when I'm recording....not really fright so much..just dunno where to start..if you listen to my clips you can definetly hear that sometimes I don't know where to go next or what to do!

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

I think you had the Lizzy thing going on pretty good there, I was feeling it. Try recording with a click or a drum beat, it'll help you keep the feel. Until you get used to recording half your brain power id directed towards that, very distracting. Were those clips through the new(old) amp?

That's great advice...I have drum software I should be using. Yeah, that's the PR, and it is certainly very different playing through it. The sensitivity it has is amazing, but it's going to take a while to get used to. The pedal (even on its lowest gain setting) really makes it easier to play, although it loses some of its responsiveness.

Thanks, guys. I am looking forward to recording on a regular basis.

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

you know, I tried the DD, and just didn't take to it, but based on those tracks, especially the rhythm, I might have to reconsider.

good job!

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

That 2nd clip reminds me of Quicksilver.. pretty cool.

I don't get stage fright anymore.. I have made an ass out of myself so many times that I don't care anymore :D actually I have respect for people who put themselves out there.

I have heard quite a few of your tunes and you do some really pro stuff man.

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

Nice! What amp are you using? I'm looking for a good OD pedal for my Turbo Pup.

The LP clip has a nice edge to it, you can really hear it in the quick little licks at the end of the progressions.

I heard a little digital clipping on the Tele clip, not much though. Just a tad hot into the mixer or something? Love the tone of the second solo.

Recording a mic'ed amp is not easy, you got good sounds, keep 'em coming!

Thought you played great, your tone is great also..That is my favorite Thin Lizzy tune also..Don't cut yourself down..It takes alot of nerve to post on the forums when you have such incredible talent from many members...I feel like I'm a decent player and I always play better when I have my own band and some adrenalin behind me,but this forum makes guys very humbled..You play great, your tone is great and your intonation, feel, and muting of chords is happening also..Thanks for the clips..

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

Thanks ALF...I'm using a '66 Pro Reverb, only on '2' on the volume (wife was home). That pedal really does a lot of things really well...with the mid boost on and the gain on low it does a nice tweedy thing. I have a Bad Bob Booster enroute from a trade so I will be interested to hear how that sounds, too. I think I'm going to order a Tone Press from Barber because I need a compressor.

Thanks for the nice words also, STRATDELUXER97; I agree with you about the band/adrenalin thing.

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

Very well done! Stage fright is a killer - I know what you mean. That '66 is a sweet amp!

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

Nothing wrong to my ears. I liked em.

I'd like to hear a solo clip using the LP. That was a great tone.

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

sweet clips. That lick on the first song sounds like the one on the tone wizard samples.

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

Thanks everyone...I brought the amp in for a routine once over and when I get it back I'll try again.

Re: A Couple Barber Direct Drive Clips

I have to say that I really liked the LP clip and Tele licks at the very end of the clip.;) Really warm OD. I like the way it can push a Fender.

Thanks for posting them. DD aren't readily available where I live and I was curious to hear one.
