A/DA Flanger?

Who's rockin' an A/DA Flanger? How does it sound? Is it super thick and creamy like the thighs on a fat girl? Is it worth the $price$?

Thinkin' about gettin' one... I love me some flanger effects. Talk me out of it, or talk me in to it... IDC.

Re: A/DA Flanger?

Super cool flanger for sure...IMO there are 3 flangers worth talking about...Electric Mistress for heavy chorus sounds, MXR for max swish and ADA for over the top nuts flanging!

Is it worth the price...not IMO but others will disagree...

Re: A/DA Flanger?

The only guy here that I know has one is Gear Jonser. My ex-boss the gear ho (SDUGF handle Woundtight) has one, but I'm pretty sure it's a reissue. Maybe he'll let me borrow it when I go see him in April.

My favorite example of A/DA Flanger madness in The Pat Travers Band Go For What You Know. Pats Travers and Thrall and bassist Mars Cowling were all rockin' A/DAs on that disc.

Re: A/DA Flanger?

Yeah, I like my 78 A/DA Flanger. It's sort of a warm bubbly underwater sound, as opposed to the winding jet flanger sound.

I've A/B'd it with about 6 other flangers at the same time, and it's interesting that none of the others can fully capture it's sound. All flangers have a distinct sound. One thing you can do with an ADA is open it up and mess with the mini pots. They control some of the features on top, so you can fine tune them to your liking, even though A/DA probably doesn't recommend it.

We're lucky they've reissued them, so buy one while they're still available. For years, you were outta luck if you couldn't find an older one. I wish I had a new Final Phase.....and one of their expression pedals.

Let me just say for the record...you should never mess with those trim pots...they are set with machines and are not really to be adjusted by the end user.

I figured they were set by a scope for their Q point. When I got it, I suspected that someone had tinkered with them. So, I set them by ear, according to where they made the pedal sound the best. I'd find out which knob on top was effected by the internal mini pot, then get that knob's sweep to sound just right.

Re: A/DA Flanger?

I've been gassing for a good flanger again. I had the Paul Gilbert Airplane, and it was really cool, but at a lot of settings it was not my cup of tea and that take off part really wasn't usefull for me. Paul makes it work great, but I couldn't ever get the timing right lol.

I've been debating an ADA or finding an old MXR. Maybe both! I love chugging with an MXR... and it can do other stuff too, but these ADAs look awesome.

Re: A/DA Flanger?

I think Gearjonser just talked me into it...

I've gotta try it. Lucky for me, my birthday is around the corner!

Re: A/DA Flanger?

I think what the A/DA has going for it is it's musical voice, which means it doesn't sound gimmicky. Some flangers sound too much like a jet plane, which makes it hard to use in a song appropriately. Personally, I try to use it as a trippy gurgly underwater sound. With delay on it, it's a cool sound.
